ELECTRICAL
EFFECTS ON
THE BODY
By Charles Maier, Chuckie Wuckie Enterprises,

Service people who work with electricity face the hazard
of electrical shock, and should make every effort to
understand the danger.
Are you tired of having to move machines when you need
an A.C. outlet for your soldering iron? Here's a cheap,
easy solution. Rock-Ola stopped putting outlets in their
machines around 1973, but you can build your own and
tap into the fluorescent outlet. Most machines have two
outlets so you won't physically be in the dark. If you want
to be real fancy, you can set it up with a "Y" tap so that
you can plug the lamp back in. Just remember to
disconnect it and pack it up when you leave.
The chart shown in Figure 1 is a dependable guide for
predicting the physiological effects of electric currents.
Notice that it is the current that does the damage. Currents
above 100 milliamperes or one-tenth of an ampere are
consideredfata/. However, if someone is available to tum
off the power source and administer immediate treatment,
a person may encounter currents exceeding 200 milli-
amperes and live to tell about it.
There are two different socket styles, so to cover all
machines, you will need the following parts. Rock-Ola
part numbers:
Current is forced through the resistance of a circuit by
voltage. The lower the resistance the more current that can
be forced through the circuit for a given amount of voltage.

Current flow through the human body depends on the
resistance of the part of the body through which the
current is flowing.

You will also need an inline A.C. socket, which is
available at any hardware store, or you can use an old
extension cord.
