NEWS AND NOTE
/)//) SOME ONE EXAGGERATE?
Mr. Mennie forwarded this letter to us just recentlv:
"Dear Air. Mennie:
Since you will doubtless be asked what has happened as a
result of the hurricane in southeast Florida. 1 wish to advise that
T have contacted Turner and also Chalmers. Including our house,
business has suffered no loss as a result of the blow. Contrary to
Walter Winchell's prediction that Miami and Miami Reach would
be washed into the sea, T am here to advise that both cities are
cleaned up this morning as if nothing had happened. Also, if you
see Walter give him our regards and advise him the storm didn't
even hit Miami and the Beach, altho' we did get a tame switch
with wind and some rain.
Thus far, the only damage T can learn of is to the fruit and
foliage in the grove and residential sections, naturally, some trees
have been uprooted and small shrubs destroyed. This will make a
scarcity of Florida fruits this winter as the fruit was blown from
the tree before it had ripened.
Ever sincerely,
(signed) S. Ernest I'hiipitt"
MUSIC IS TREMENDOUS FACTOR
IN NATIONAL UNITY
Frank Buck Wins Gitlbnwscn Piano
JVINS A GULBRANSEN
PIANO
Every year the great firm of L. Bamberger, Department Store.
Newark, New Jersey, puts on a Red Cross Baseball Benefit and
gives away a number of valuable prizes. One of the chief prizes
is a Gulbransen piano. This year this coveted prize was won by
Frank Buck who is shown in the above picture being congratulated
upon his good luck.
There were more than 20,000 persons in the stadium on the
night the drawing was made for this prize. The Bamberger Com-
pany turned over to the National Red Cross a sum exceeding
$20,000. This certainly was a magnificent piece of civic and
national service.
FORTY POUNDS OF NICKELS
MAKE DOWN PAYMENT ON WURLITZER
Oscar W. Bammerlin. Wurlitzer dealer of Massillon, Ohio,
recently sold a Wurlitzer Model 591 Spinette to a newly married
couple. When the contract was drawn up instead of reaching in
his pocket for his check book, the groom brought forth a large
bag full of Jefferson nickels—$138.00 worth of them! The couple
had collected them over a period of one year, saving only the [ef-
terson nickels. The bag of nickels weighed forty pounds—and
iorty pounds of nickels make a very substantial down payment.

"Music—The Fourth Necessity—A People That Can Sing
Together, Can Live Together—Can Fight Together" was the sub-
ject of a stirring and inspiring address delivered over Station
WSNT recently by Harry Edward Freund, author, editor, lecturer,
and publicist.
In his address, Mr. Freund stressed the vital importance of
community singing for maintaining the spirit and morale of the
people of the United States in these critical days in the history of
the nation and that music is a tremendous factor for the unity of the
nation.
In concluding Mr. Freund said, " I Hear America Singing."
The words of that famous poet, Walt Whitman, will find their echo
in the heart of America, proving that the potency of music with its
inspiring message of faith and hope will give to the millions of
people in this great country the power to raise their voices in
unity. . . ." Inspiring words! Mr. Freund.
