and his left on a hundle of fasces, the emblem of our unity. Wash-
ington, a rich aristocrat risked everything for Liberty; Lincoln,
a poor man of the common people gave his life for it.
While in New York it will be worth our while to take a good
look at The Statue Of Liberty—Salute it and thank God for our
American Libert}-. Once again quietly vow to preserve our Ameri-
The strongest urge in the heart of
man is for freedom and the highest
ideal of his mind is for liberty: free-

Liberty! To be physically and
mentally free to- engage in the
noblest, pursuits of the individual
and the highest service of society is
not a gift but an achievement won
through constant effort. An individ-
ual or a nation, cannot just take
liberty for granted. To do so is to
wake up some day and realize that
liberty is gone.
America attained liberty through
a bitter struggle and preserved it
through a sad civil war. Daily I
look at a picture in my office entitled
"The Surrender of Cornwallis at
Yorktown." Frequently 1 go across
Michigan Avenue, Chicago, into
Grant Park to stand before St. Gau-
den's statue of Lincoln and get in-

can Libertv from all foes, both within and without. I hear the voice
of Patrick Henry making his great speech while Old (ilory is un-
furled. 1 listen to 130,000,000 Americans sing "Long may it wave
o'er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave!"
Hail Goddess of Liberty ! America must ever march by the Light
of Liberty in order to enjoy life and the Pursuit of Happiness.
The world's greatest need today is, "Liberty, Enlightening the
World."
