The "National Academy of Music," 1525 East 53rd
street, Chicago, 111., which has been selling a home
study course of instructions in music has entered into
stipulations with the Federal Trade Commission to
discontinue certain misleading representations in ad-
vertising, that the study of its courses makes one an
accomplished musician in a short time and gives one
instruction by the best master artists and teachers of
America. The system of this school does not require
that the pupil study in the presence of his teachers or
receive the personal instruction of master teachers
except by correspondence.

A few weeks ago a letter of inquiry was sent to
piano manufacturers and managers of piano depart-
ments asking for data on piano output for the cur-
rent year. Mr. Hugh Stewart replying to the one
addressed to The Rudolph Wurlitzer Company said
he would not attempt to give information concerning
the business of other manufacturers than The Ru-
dolph Wurlitzer Company but as for Wurlitzer sales
and production he said that for the month of July
this year Wurlitzer piano output was 65.87 per cent
ahead of July, 1936. "Statistics show," he said, "that
Mr. E. J. Beach who for years past has been a pipe the increase in sales and production by the piano
organ builder at Newark, N. J., says that it is almost manufacturing industry, as a whole, for the same
time to bid goodbye to the small pipe organ although period was 22.76 per cent. Thus Wurlitzer's sales and
great organs of two, three and four manual, concave output for July this year were 43.11 per cent greater

is falling in line for a like advance over 1936." This

In an interview with a New York paper, Mr. Beach was Sales Manager Hugh Stewart's reply to the re-
refers to the great quantity of lumber that goes into quest for piano output data.
While xMr. Stewart's data does not give informa-

big pipes in which are more than eighteen feet long, tion on the quantity of piano production, individually,

"We shipped more pianos in September this year,"
continued Mr. Stewart, "than the Wurlitzer Company
ever did before in any one month in the whole his-
tory of the concern and if you are interested in actual
figures I will be glad to send them to you, in confi-
dence, on request."

My dear Mr. Fagan:
The piano and bench that 1 purchased from you
while living in Troy last March and that you started
on its way to Africa, arrived in Umtali about two
weeks ago. It came through in perfect condition and
without a scratch. It was just a little out of tune
after its long ride. There was a man who tunes
pianos in Umtali and 1 had him go over it, and within
half an hour the little Story & Clark was in perfect
tune. Mrs. Sells and the girls are enjoying the instru-
ment and it adds considerable cheer to our work.
The Sells family want to thank you for the line way
in which you handled, packed and delivered the piano
to the docks in New York. We look back to the two
months we spent in Troy with considerable joy.
With kind regards, sincerely yours,
E. L. SELLS.
