ple well worth visiting. Particularly dealers, piano
makers, tuners, acousticians and everyone interested
in the development of the American piano will find
this exhibit fascinating.
Here is on display the first piano made by the
founder of the Steinway business, Henry Engelhard
which he first played in public his famous Minuet
in G.
As a part of the Steinway historical display atten-
tion is called to the Steinway grand Moderne built
of macassar ebony but which is located in the Elec-
trical Building of the Century of Progress Exposi-
tion and in connection with which a full description

also with Mr. Steinway's workbench a collection of
tools used by him and all loaned by the direct
descendants and present owners of Steinway & Sons.
A particularly interesting showing in this exhibit is
the Steinway grand used by Mr. Paderewski when he
first visited America at the time of the World's Col-
umbian Exposition. This is probably the piano on
IH'ILT
of the instrument is given and the accompanying
illustration gives a good idea of the casework and
finish of this unique design.
All in all this Steinway Historical Exhibit may
well be classed as a vivid manifestation of A Century
of Progress enterprise.
