town first settled by Hollanders, has been pushing
with success the refrigerator business and recently has

NEWS THAT ISN'T MUCH NEWS
In a reply to a postscript to a letter to a salesman
with a big New York department store asking "What's
the news?'' he write as follows:
"There isn't any news; a 'defunct-in-summer' indus-
try could not be expected to produce news. Dealers
tell me they are repossessing more pianos this sum-
mer than they are selling new ones. They might tell
YOU differently. And here is another item; person-
ally I know five earnest-minded music students who
need pianos and would like to buy. Their musical
progress is halted because of pianos lacking; but they
are without purchasing capacity; not earning any
money now. So that's that. In the meantime the
jazz singers and crooners are collecting fat salaries
from misguided advertisers and who believe they are
directing destinies. S'funny, isn't it?"
And this is the kind of news that has been coming
to us these hot summer days now leaving us.
