RENEWED ACTIVITIES AT THE
SETTERGREN PIANO FACTORY
Since a readjustment of some of its manufacturing
and production facilities the B. K. Settergren Piano
Co., Bluffton, Ind., finds greatly renewed activities
and increased orders.
An additional working force has been put to
work and it is believed that steady and increased
operations will continue on through the fall and
winter. The people of Bluffton are greatly delighted
over renewed activities in the Settergren factories.
CAPEHART EASTERN OFFICE
The offices recently established as New York and
Eastern headquarters at 2166 Broadway, New York,
will give Eastern dealers and dealers everywhere vis-
iting New York an opportunity to see and examine
the entire Capehart line. The sales of the Capehart
instruments in and about New York city, especially
the Capehart "400" Series, are now very great and
will continue to run into the thousands.
The unit sale of the Capehart "400" Series is large
with substantial profit to the dealer. The "400"
Series is built particularly for use in families. Mr.
R. C. Vaughan is in charge of the New York office
and visitors to his establishment will be welcomed.
The telephone number is Susquehanna 1900, and the
temporary sales office, as above stated, 2166 Broad-
way.
The Capehart instruments have met with much
success in various demonstrations in the East. In a
recent issue of the New York Times an article by
Compton Pakenham, speaking of various automatic
phonographic instruments, writes concerning a recent
display, as follows:
"What caught the eye, however, and held the at-
tention was the latest surprise from the Capehart
Corporation of Fort Wayne, Ind. For several years
this company has specialized in the search for and
production of automatics. In 1928 it turned to the
business of making the playing of records a less wear-
ing ordeal, and a year ago produced a machine which
would play single sides of ten-inch disks. But the
general idea was far more ambitious, and finally the
rights to a patent existing in England were obtained
and the present '400' series is the result.
"The Capehart '400' seems to go as far as possible
toward overcoming the major objection to playing
records, apart from the long-player itself.
"In doing this it has had to solve a problem which
has long irritated those who have experimented with
automatic machines. Put up to twenty-four records,
ten or twelve inch, in any order, of any make, in its
magazine, start the works and it will proceed to play
both sides of each record and, if not stopped at that
point, will repeat the process indefinitely."
THE BALDWIN PIANO STUDIOS, INC.,
Indianapolis, Ind., has been incorporated with capital
stock of 2,500 shares at $10 each; object to deal in
pianos and musical instruments.
The president of the company is Mrs. J. Ellison
Fish and the officers are Ray Coverdill, vice-president
and general manager; Henry B. Krug, treasurer, and
Mrs. Mary King, secretary. The location is at 21
E. Ohio street.
The company has acquired all of the good will,
fixtures, furniture and stock of the Baldwin Piano Co.,
located at 33 Monument circle. The Baldwin com-
pany has for many years been one of the leading
music houses in Indianapolis, and has been identified
with the piano business sixty years.
Mrs. Fish formerly was floor manager of the Pear-
son Piano Co. and Mr. Coverdill was manager of the
Baldwin Piano Co. Prior to this, Mr. Coverdill was
manager of the Kimball Piano Co. and the Hobart
M. Cable Co.
"It is the intention of the Baldwin Piano Studios,
Inc., to give the music lovers of Indianapolis the best
that is to be had in music," Mrs. Fish said. "The
public will become intimately acquainted with artists
who are featuring the Baldwin on the stage, and we
have several appearances of movie stars who own
Baldwin pianos. We propose to carry a complete
line of Baldwin pianos in period cases and conven-
tional styles."
New Ideas to Be Presented
Mr. Coverdill explained that the piano will be dis-
played at the store in surroundings that will typify
the home. Many new ideas will be presented to the
public, he said.
It is the intention of the new organization to give
children an opportunity to study piano, Mr. Cover-
dill said. He said that the Baldwin Piano Co. of
Cincinnati, O., has announced three new period in-
struments which will be on display at the new store.
