CLARK GROSS
JOINS GULBRANSEN
Along with .the news of increased activity in the
piano department of the Gulbransen Co., Chicago,
announcement is made that, effective December 1,
Clark F. Gross rejoined his old associates and is again
active with the Gulbransen piano in Ohio, Indiana,
and Michigan.
Mr. Gross is a man of high character, also pleasing
personality, and it is doubtful if there is any man with
any line of merchandise who is more cordially wel-
come bv the trade than Clark Gross.

TO BUILD UP TRADE IN 1931
Now the Automatic Combination Leads to Bigger
Profits for Dealers.
By H. E. Capehart, President and General Manager
The Capehart Corporation, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
We hear much discussion nowadays over what is
needed to assist the dealer in the solution of his prob-
lems—problems which generally have been brought
about by a lowering of unit prices in practically all
radio lines.
I firmly believe in the future of the automatic
phonograph and radio combination. 1 have had hun-
dreds of dealers tell me that such an instrument will
he one of the solutions to their problems.
With this perfected musical instrument dealers may
look for a return to the days of higher resale prices.
They will further enjoy the substantial secondary
profits which come from record sales in sets or
groups. Every automatic that is sold immediately
sets up a perpetual income from record sales.
The year of 1931 will find many prominent radio
lines containing the Capehart automatic record
changer which plays both 10-inch and 12-inch records.
Concentrated advertising and merchandising pro-
grams developed around these instruments will build
up an increasingly great demand for the perfect home
instrument appealing to the popular or mass market.
Now is the time to plan your 1931 sales program.
Study the fundamentals of your business and then
set about to direct the sales energies of your organ-
ization toward the automatic combination.
When you do this your profit picture should reveal
a more interesting story at the end of the year.
Nineteen thirty-one will be a big year for the auto-
matic combination.
GOOD ORDERS AT BRECKWOLDT'S.
Julius Breckwoldt & Son, Inc., Dolgeville, N. Y.,
manufacturers of sounding boards, backs, bridges,
bars, boxes, etc., for piano manufacturers, are pleased
to state that they have started the new year with
more unfilled orders than they had last year "and
it may be on the theory that things will change for
the better."
This assertion of probable better conditions coming
from so conservative a house as the Breckwoldt's is
more than an assurance of future success. It is a
declaration of the fighting spirit that always means
fidelity to ideals and it generally wins in business the
same as in war.

COMPRISING
Through many years' association with the piano
business, both wholesale and retail, Mr. Gross has a
very practical and abundant understanding of the
problems involved in piano merchandising. Also,
his knowledge of the Gulbransen, based on many
years' experience with the Gulbransen Co., has given
him a background of knowledge highly valuable to the
merchants upon whom he calls.
The return of Clark Gross to the Gulbransen organ-
ization will be hailed with gratification by the many
Gulbransen dealers throughout his territory where
his conscientious service and more than ordinary abil-
