ALL PLAYING IS INDIVIDUAL.
FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY
OF MAYER MUSIC HOUSE
At the time of the Tune convention in Chicago, Presto-
Times gave a. report of the demonstration by William
Braid White, acoustic engineer of the American Steel
& Wire Company, of his development of the Osiso, a
de\ ice for making sound wave photographs. Since the
middle of September, Mr. White and C. Anderson, engi-
neer of the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing
Company, have been exhibiting the work of the device
at Steinway Hall, New York. One of the things demon-
strated is that each artist produces patterns as individual
as his signature, and though others may be able to
imitate these patterns fairly well, apparenly no one else
can reproduce them exactly. The Osiso is designed to
calibrate the harmony of musical instruments, and detect
imperfections, whether in tones from wires or strings,
or reverberations of sounding boards. Mr. White said it
is found sounding boards sometimes reverberate better
at some points in the scale than others.
Paris, Texas, Gives Honor to Henry P. Mayer and
Dinner Horn Toots Praise.
On the occasion of the celebration of the anniver-
sary of the Henry P.. Mayer Music House, Paris,
Texas, friends and business contemporaries paid trib-
ute to Henry P. Mayer, the founder of the business.
September 24 was the date of the celebration.
Fellow merchants of Paris extended the glad hand
by means of a two-page advertisement in the Paris
Dinner Horn, closely packed with messages of felici-
tation.
A congratulatory party arranged by the Paris
Chamber of Commerce was held on the evening of
the anniversary at the Mayer Music House. Numer-
ous floral baskets, the gifts of his townsmen, were
decked about the shop on that occasion.
The Paris Morning News paid a lengthy tribute to
Mr. Mayer. It spoke in glowing terms of his suc-
cess, of the untiring efforts which hade made his
one of the really substantial music houses of Texas,
of his civic spirit that prompted him to bring to
Paris many of. the great musical organizations of the
country, and to devote much of his valuable time to
the business management of the Paris school board.
In addition, as past president of the Chamber of Com-
merce there, he contributed much to the up-building
of Paris.
The Presto-Times joins with the fellow townsmen
of Henry P. Mayer in wishing him many more years
of growth and prosperity.
"PENNANT WINNER" POPULAR.
Judging from the number of orders received by the
Clark Orchestra Roll Co., De Kalb, 111., for "The
Pennant Winner" it looks as though this all-hit roll
containing twelve of the most popular song-hits of
the day will outsell all other music rolls. It's a
snappy arrangement of twelve catchy tunes such as
"Pagan Love Song," "Louise," etc. That explains
its phenomenal success.
APPRECIATIVE LETTERS
TO UNGER MUSIC CO.
"Dreams, Just Dreams" Seems to Be a Prime
Favorite Among the Singers and Conductors.
The J. S. Unger Music Company, Reading, Pa., has
recently received some very complimentary letters from
different musicians and artists in various parts of the
country. Among them is one from "Hip" Haynes and
his Commanders of Mitchell, S. D., from which the fol-
lowing is an abstract:
"Mitchell, S. D., August 19, 1929.
"Received your copy of the waltz, 'Dreams, Just
Dreams,' words and music by Don Fina, from Miss
Genevicve Martin, Kenosha, Wis., and I wish to state that
the number is a very nice waltz and makes a lovely
composition to add to our library.
"Would you kindly get in touch with the composer,
Don Fina, and thank him very kindly for me and tell
him that I appreciate the ballad he wrote and will do
all I can to help him move it.

"Dear Sirs :
"I am very much in love with one of your songs,
'Dreams, Just Dreams,' by Don Fina. Someone hap-
pened to send it to my accompanist, Roy Farr, who is
the staff organist on WCFL. Believe it was sent from
Milwaukee. He played it last Sunday, and I thought it
beautiful and just my kind of a song. Being that I am
a contralto, I wonder if you would send me a lower key
copy; it is written in four flats, and think one flat would
be O. K. for me. Send words and piano copy.
"If you have anything else for a contralto, I would
appreciate the words and piano in low key. I sing over
WCFL every Sunday from 2:15 to 2:45 and 3 p. m.,
with Roy Farr accompanying at the Barton organ.
"Thanking you very kindly, I am,
"Very sincerely,
