MINNA KROKOWSKY
Minna Krokowsky, violinist, is soloist for the con-
cert of the Chicago Peoples' Symphony Orchestra
Sunday, November 18. She has attained nation-wide
reputation, at an age when most artists are just
beginning their careers. Born in Russia and brought
to America when very young, almost from infancy
she showed signs of that talent that was to bring
her fame later on.
Her first lessons were with Alexander Zukowsky,
of Chicago, and she made her debut at the age of ten,
when she was pronounced by musical critics a child
prodigy. Later, she was sent to New York, where
she graduated from the institute of Musical Art (Dr.
Frank Damrosch, Director), studying under Hugo
Kortshak and the late Fritz Kneisel.
Glen Dillard Gunn in the Chicago Herald and
Examiner, says:
''Her tone has concentrated intensity, and a surpris-
ing range of varied color; it can match the vigorous
arabesques of Bach and reflected perfectly the nobil-
ity of Vital.i's Chaconne. Her technical equipment
often approximates perfection."

NEW LEEDY DRUM BOOK.
A booklet about drum corps, drums and drummers'
accessories has just been issued by the Leedy Man-
ufacturing Company, Inc., Indianapolis. The booklet
is of forty pages, of convenient folding size, and has
been named the "Roll-Off." Front and back covers
carry that title in colors, and carry an illustration of
a drummer in marching position. This figure, too,
is in color on a dark background. The inside front
cover carries an interesting account of "The Story of
the Drum," which traces the evolution of that instru-
ment from its earliest form in prehistoric times.
DEATH OF ERNEST E. JOHNSON.
Ernest E. Johnson, floor salesman for the Moist
Piano Company, 309 South Wabash avenue, Chicago,
who died about two weeks ago in St. Luke's Hospital,
Chicago, was a victim of cancer of the stomach.
He was fifty years of age and leaves a widow, but no
children. Mr. Johnson had been at Moists for eight-
een years. He was ill for two months before he
died, but the exact nature of his ailment took his
fellow salesmen by surprise, as he had always been
the picture of health. He was a good salesman, they
all declare, and companionable.
