Give them joy, give them peace,
Thy great love to know.
F. J. HEPPE IS COMPOSER
OF NEW CHURCH HYMN
Philadelphia Piano Man Writes New Words to
Dvorak's Largo From the New World.
A new setting to Dvorak's Largo from the New
World Symphony has been written by Florence J.
Heppe, Philadelphia piano manufacturer. Mr. Heppe
says he will not copyright the text as it is in the
form of a prayer and he gives it out for use by any-
one, anywhere, according to Earle L. Love, writing
from Poland Springs, Me.
The words, which lit perfectly to the secular song
of "Going Home," which is the only other adaptation
of the Largo to song, are as follows:
HEAR OUR PRAYER.
From the Largo of the New World Symphony
By Anton Dvorak
Words by Florence J. Heppe.
O dear God, O dear Lord,
O Thou Spirit; pray
Hear our Pray'rs, hear our Thanks
That we bring today.
All our Joys, all our Peace
Come from Thee alone.
Comforts all, that we need
'Tis Thy work well done.
Holy One, Blessed One,
Come into our hearts;
Teach us to live as Thou would'st
Ere our life departs.
Ere our life departs
Come, come, dwell in our hearts.
[ !
Come to those in grief,
Change all unbelief,
Help the poor, and all distressed,
Make the sick and dying blessed,
And all sinners save.
Bless the halt, bless the blind,
Thy rich grace bestow;
Bless our land, shore to shore,
Enemies disarm,
Make our hearts, more and more
Loath to do one harm.

BAND LEADER DECORATED.
The Pan American Union has just received word
from Lima, Peru, that Captain William J. Stannard,
leader of the United States Army Band, has been
decorated with the "Order of the Sun." Captain
Stannard and the members of the Army Band have
shown marked interest in the music of Peru, not only
in the works of modern masters, but also in the
ancient melodies of the Incas. This "Order of the
Sun" was founded by one of the great liberators of
South America, General San Martin, in 1821, and in
1923 was re-established by act of congress.
SCHUBERT CO. IN RADIO FIELD.
The Schubert Tri-Harmonic Company, under the
direct management of the officials of the Schubert
Piano Company, has announced a line of radio-phono-
graph combinations. In a statement recently made
public Peter S. Duffy, president, said, "In entering-
the radio field we determined to bring out a line of
instruments for the music dealer, only, merchandised
on a plan with which he is entirely familiar. Back of
this plan is the experience of nearly half a century
in the manufacturing and retailing of pianos and
musical instruments."
M. SCHULZ CO. TRADE INCREASING.
Well-Known Concert Pianist Amazed at Per-
fect Arrangements for Production
of Artistic Pianos.
One of the recent visitors to the factories of the
Baldwin Piano Co., Cincinnati, was Dorsey Whitting-
ton, the well known concert pianist, who later wrote
the following letter to the company from the Jackson-
ville College of Music, Jacksonville, Florida, under
date of August 27, 1928:
"Gentlemen: After my recent visit to your factory
in Cincinnati, I deem it my pleasant duty to tell you
of my impressions and reactions.
"A twentieth century miracle! In a factory with
the most modern equipment and of the highest effi-
ciency, I found artisans unhurriedly working with
the rare craftsmanship and idealistic traditions of the
guilds of old. The same painstaking pride was in
evidence in the work of all—from the making of the
smallest part of the action to the final voicing and
tuning of the finished instrument. Every man was
doing what to him was the most important work, with
a loving care that seems incredible in this day of
quantity production and speed. It is due to this
enthusiasm and tradition (long may it live!) that the
Baldwin pianoforte remains a work of art and not a
product of commercialism.
"Evidently the House of Baldwin is not content to
rest upon its present great achievements and on the
glories of the past. In the undisturbed quietude of
the laboratories, I found scientists experimenting with
woods, varnishes, felts and glues, always seeking per-
fection. In other rooms, materials were being sub-
jected to such rigorous tests that it would be impos-
sible for anything of inferior quality to go into an
instrument bearing the name of Baldwin.
"No, gentlemen, my impression was not of a fac-
tory, but of many ateliers in an harmonious ensemble,
realizing the dreams and aspirations of the founders
of the world-renowned House of Baldwin."
In chatting with office manager Sheldon at the M.
Schulz Co., 711 Milwaukee avenue, Chicago, on Tues-
day of this week, a Presto-Times representative was
pleased to hear that trade is on the steady gain. Mr.
Sheldon, who is always £fj*iservative in his state-
ments, is happy in the belief that the upturn in trade
