NEW HOWARD GRAND MODEL
The new Howard grand piano is the latest crea-
tion of the Baldwin Piano Co., Cincinnati, for which
most impressive advertising material has been pre-
pared. A poster in five colors is a striking bit of
publicity. On the reverse side are details of the
scale insures a uniform quality of tone, together with
unusual resonance throughout the entire scale.
A cross-banded rim construction is used, pleasing in
appearance and affording added strength, due to its
well balanced ply-wood structure. The light yet pow-

Robert T. Lytle, head of the Welte Mignon Cor-
poration, 665 Fifth avenue, is now on a two weeks'
trip in the Central West, with stops in his itinerary at
Chicago and St. Louis. The business of the reor-
ganized Welte Mignon is shaping into greater ampli-
tude very rapidly, which fact gives it promise of a
splendid future.
Paul G. Mehlin & Sons.
"Conditions in the piano business have shown sub-
stantial improvement during the last month in actual
sales and in the general outlook," said C. W. Hahn,
superintendent of Paul G. Mehlin & Sons piano fac-
tory. Mr. Hahn is a conservative man, not given to
exaggeratioa; therefore, his observations reflect the
actual conditions throughout the country. Paul G.
Mehlin & Sons operate one of the larger plants, with
trade everywhere, which makes this kind of a report
most encouraging.
Celco Co. Headquarters.
The Celco Corp., with factories at Norwalk, O.,
J. H. Shale, president, has leased permanent offices
on the fifth floor of the new Salmon Tower Building,
West 42nd street near Fifth avenue, New York. They
moved in on May 18. Walter A. Hall, secretary of
the company and lawyer, occupies a suite of rooms
on the 30th floor of the same gigantic building.
William Tonk Back.
William Tonk, head of William Tonk & Bro., Inc.,
10th avenue, 35th and 36th streets, and Mrs. Tonk
arrived in New York this week, ending a pleasant
vacation which included a long sojourn in California,
a visit to Percy Tonk, their nephew, in Chicago, and
a lot of enjoyable stop-overs en route home. Mr.
and Mrs. Tonk look the picture of health, and are
eloquent of the beauties of the West and the geniality
of its people.

W. B. Williams on Road.
W. B. Williams, Eastern traveler for the Schiller
Piano Co., who has his New York office on the 20th
floor of 132 West 42nd street, left for Philadelphia
and other points early this week. He had been in
New York only two days this time. O. W. Williams,
whose name is on the same door, remains in Phila-
delphia all the time nowadays.
William J. Behr's Views.
William J. Behr, president of Behr Bros. & Co.,
Inc., piano manufacturers, 635 West 50th street, is in
an optimistic state of mind these days over returning
activity in larger measure in the piano and player
piano trade. He said that they were plodding along,

advertising campaign perfected for the new instru-
ment.
The new Howard grand piano is Style 450 and is 4
feet 7 inches long. It has exclusive features of con-
struction. The application of scientific methods in
the correlation of the parts of this Howard grand
produce throughout an unusually effective scale, beau-
tifully developed in a small space, and giving a qual-
ity of tone, full and round, heretofore not obtainable
in a grand piano of similar size.
The metal plate, designed exclusively for this in-
strument, is of great strength and is specially con-
structed to allow free outlet of the desirable singing
tones. The resonant sound board is rigidly mounted
on an unyielding acoustic rim, preventing loss of tone-
producing vibration. Equal tension throughout the
crful touch produces a free responsiveness that adds
much to the brilliant carrying tone. Standard pedal
shifting of action is provided for pianissimo effects.
Bass sustaining pedal.
The Period case designs are authentic in every
detail. The European fall board is used, recognized
for its advantage in utility and appearance.
