Scheme for Dealers.
The Packard Piano Company, Fort Wayne, Ind.,
wi 1 soon celebrate the anniversary of the inception
of music lessons into its scheme of piano selling.
From May of 1927 to February 16, 1928, the company
expended $4,(X)0, stretching over several cities in
Indiana, such as Ft. Wayne, Auburn, Garrett, Water-
loo, Columbia City, Kendallville, and Monroeville.
"In Auburn and Waterloo in eleven months we got
two sales, one in each town," says F. V. Kelly, head
of the sales deparement. "Now in these two cities,
we are selling on an average to date, from two to
three pianos per week. I am very conservative in
saying that we have one hundred good live prospects
in the three cities of Auburn, Waterloo, and Columbia
City. The approximate population of these three
cities is, Auburn, 5,000; Columbia City, 4,400; and
Waterloo about 3,200. The individual sales average
about $510, and 47% cash, that is—in down payments.

"In everyone of the three named cities we put on a

"Our method of procedure has proved beyond the
shadow of a doubt that all resistance, suspicion, and
dislikes towards the piano man may be eliminated.
Our salesmen today are received into the very best
homes and there exists an atmosphere of friendli-
ness which conveys this feeling: 'We are glad to talk
to you and buy from you because we are sold 100%
on the proposition that you must have a wonderful
piano, because a company who would go to the
extreme of assisting us in giving our youngsters a
musical education, could not and would not put its
