THE ATWATER KENT SEARCH.
Spontaneous enthusiasm has been aroused by the
nation-wide search for unknown, sweet-voiced young
singers, now being conducted by the Atwater Kent
Foundation through its National Radio Audition. The
National Radio Audition, from the selection of one
boy and one girl to represent each participating com-
munity in a state audition in each state, proceeds by
a process of elimination. Of the young men and
young women who compete in the state auditions,
which with all subsequent auditions will be broad-
cast by radio, one each will be certified to a district
audition, the United States as a whole being divided
into five districts. All contestants must be amateurs
between the ages of 18 and 25 years of age. Choir
singers, even though they may have received com-
pensation for singing in churches, are not excluded
by the provision as to amateurs.
MUSIC IN CANADA.
Canada joins the United States more strongly in
the advocacy of class instrumental instruction in the
schools with the establishment of piano and violin
classes in seven schools of Montreal. Violin classes
have been conducted in the Ottawa schools since
1919, and there is much interest in piano group in-
struction in Toronto.
