There are now 25 members in the stringed orches-
tra of the Congregational Church in De Kalb, 111.
The first meeting to forming a high school band
in St. Clair, Mich., was held in the high school last
week with Ernest R. Storey of Sarnia, who has
been hired by the Parent-Teachers' Association to
instruct the band.
The "first band" of Forest City, la., was formed
Nov. 23. A second band or beginners' band was or-
ganized Nov. 25.
Two bands have been organized in the Ligonier, Ind.,
schools, one with thirty-five musicians and another
with sixty-five. In a few months the two organi-
zations will be united to form a school band of
nearly 100 pieces.
An important meeting and rehearsal of the Boys'
Band, Monroe, Mich., took place in the band room
with Gus Koehler, of Toledo, in charge. Plans were
made for the regular weekly rehearsals of the band.
R. A. Wilier, director of music in the Sullivan, Ind.,
public schools, organized a Sunday school orchestra
at the Christian Church.
The Lexington, Ky., school band, composed of
boys of the Lexington grade and high schools, is
rapidly developing into a worthy musical aggrega-
tion, with rehearsals held twice weekly.
The Boys' Band of Maysville, Ky., is under the
leadership of Prof. George D. Barnard.
VIOLIN MAKER GAS POISONED
Joseph Bietau, New York, Who Has Ambition to Pro-
duce Finest Fiddles, Rescued by Policeman.
Joseph Bietau, 57 years old, a violin maker with
a workshop at 53 Avenue A, New York City, is at
Bellevue Hospital suffering from accidental gas
poisoning. He was saved from death only by the
heroic efforts of a policeman, who found him in an
unconscious condition in his shop. The stock of 56
violins, mostly of his own manufacture, were re-
moved for safety to the Fifth street police station.
According to neighbors and friends the violin
maker has the ambition to create violins in America
which will rival the Stradivarius.
It was ten years ago that Bietau began intensive
work to fulfill his dream of creating an unsurpassed
violin. His many friends who have heard the mel-
low tones of his instruments in his little shop are
praying with him that he may live to achieve his
ambition.
BRITISH INSTALLMENT PLAN.

phone Manufacturers' Association and the Gramo-
phone Dealers' Association, and agreed upon as fol-
lows: Ten per cent interest to be added to cash
price; amount of deposit (minimum £1) ten per
cent; period, twelve months; no minimum to price of
machines. Other matters in regard to which suitable
decisions were made included the formation of
branch associations, and discounts to employes of
