In San Francisco and Los Angeles recently the
Gulbransen Grand and Registering Grand have been
especially featured by Lee S. Roberts, Inc., and the
Martin Music Co., respectively, in connection with the
appearance of Elvira de Hidalgo, coloratura prima
donna of the San Francisco Opera Company.
Miss de Hidalgo, who is a great artist, has recently
written a very strong letter of commendation of the
Gulbransen Registering piano, in which she says:
"There is nothing mechanical about it, notwithstand-
ing that one can play it by roll without touching the
keys."
The picture shows Miss de Hidalgo, standing, and
playing the Gulbransen Grand is Bance Van Buren,
vocal instructor connected with the Herman de Vries
Studio of Chicago.
Miss Van Buren, too, has written a very interesting
letter, particularly her statement, "I consider the
Gulbransen ideal for studio work—a singing teacher,
for instance, who has not time to keep her piano
technique up to virtuoso notch will find a mellow
tone and responsive action admirably suited to
accompaniments."
HERE'S A NEW IDEA
IN A PIANO CONTEST
for twenty-five wonderful color panels located on
"Clean City" boxes in the downtown section of Louis-
ville. The contest makes it necessary for the people
to visit these boxes on the corners, and find the
twenty-five Krausgill panels, noting accurately the
location. In addition each contestant must write a
reason why the Kurtzmann is a good piano to buy.
The piano company has decorated its window with
an apartment grand Kurtzmann piano giving many
outstanding points of merit. The other window
contains one of the boxes and shows the panel which
the public is to find.
The contest is to be extensively advertised in the
newspapers and $200 in cash prizes are offered for the
best solutions. The Krausgill Piano Company has as
its slogan "Louisville's Most Complete Music House,"
and they carry a full line of pianos, victrolas, string
and band instruments.
After Long Period of Banalities, Alert Ken-
tuckian Thinks Up an Original Piano
Contest Stunt.
Piano contests have been many since first manu-
factured but the varieties have been few. As a rule
originality was conspicuous by its absence in the
affairs. Counting the dots and specks in a picture
and guessing the number of beans in a jar long ago
failed to thrill and arouse interest in a special piano
sale and for some time the stunt-makers of the sales
department have been unproductive of ideas. But at
last a novelty has been created.
To H. A. Reynolds, secretary and treasurer of the
Krausgill Piano Company, Louisville, Ky., goes the
credit of originating an entirely new contest. This
new contest makes walking necessary, in developing
this contest. Mr. Reynolds has solved a problem
which has confronted poster advertising people for
years, that of developing a contest around poster
advertising, which would interest the people.
The Krausgill Piano Company recently contracted
