The Conn line of band instruments is favored in the
Dreyer's Band School, New Albany, Ind., which has
an announcement in the newspapers this week which
says the school "has trained hundreds of students on
wind instruments for twenty years. Some playing in
Sousa's Band and the most celebrated organizations
of the world.

There may still be some in the trade who do not
realize that in the conservative and rather unpre-
tentious inland city of Oregon, 111., is located an un-
usually active and thriving industry in the small in-
strument branch of the trade. This business, the
Paragon Case Company, Inc., which started only
about four years ago, is today pressed for space and
contemplates erecting a large building perfectly
adapted to its purposes.
The Paragon Case Company manufactures the
"Paragon" and "Defiance" line of musical instrument
cases. Cases for all musical instruments, practically,
from bass drums to jewsharps. Almost every musi-
cal instrument—snare drums, banjos, horns of all
kinds and every description—may be properly en-
cased, and this comparatively new concern is, to all
appearances, well able to meet every requirement in
its line of work.
The remarkable resonance of Stradivari and other
famous old violins is said by a German scientist to be
due to treating the wood with a rubber solution be-
fore varnishing.
