The Vibraphone, a new musical instrument de-
signed and made by the Leedy Mfg. Co., Indianapo-
lis, is pictured and described in a new folder just
issued by the company. The Leedy Vibraphone, ac-
cording to the folder, "serves as an artistic addition to
any band or orchestra. Its exquisite, enchanting
vibrato and mellow steel tone leaves an everlasting
impression upon the listener. It has great volume
and carrying power owing to its characteristic pene-
trating qualities."
Continuing, the folder gives in detail the merits of
the new instrument:
The Vibraphone is very easy to master. The
Vibrato of the instrument makes it unnecessary to
roll with the hammers. Chords, arpeggios and octaves
produce the most beautiful effects.
There is no instrument that can compare with
the Vibraphone for sweetness of tone, for accom-
paniments, or obbligatos in songs and ballads, also in
some of the beautiful soft passages in our modern
musical selections as well as the most classical num-
bers.
The tone produced is compared by many with the
pipe organ, owing to the celestial beauty and even
pathetic tone of the Vibrato or pulsating character.
As a solo instrument when played with two, three
or four hammers it is in a class by itself.
The Vibrato of the steel bars is accomplished by
electrically controlled rotating fans, one in each reso-
nator. The speed control lever on the motor (en-
cased at the upper end of the instrument) enables
the performer to set the Vibrato to suit the character
of the number being played—producing a true vox
humano effect in the steel marimba.

Market for Latter Considerably Stimulated, Accord-
ing to Selden O. Martin.
Twenty-rive dealers attended a meeting held at
the offices of the Keifer-Stewart Company, Indianap-
olis, last week, when Selden O. Martin, president of
the Sonora Phonograph Company, addressed the In-
diana dealers.
Mr. Martin asserted there has been unusual activity
in the radio and phonograph industries in the last
year. Quotas in both phases of the industry for the
entire year were exceeded in the first eight months
of this year, he said.
"We have found that radio has stimulated the mar-
ket for phonographs beyond the expectations of the
leaders in the industry," he said.
The dealers attending the meeting reported that
business conditions in their districts are improving.

George Cracknell, manager of the Conn Portland
Co., Portland, Ore , has appointed Linn Sherman as
instructor of the saxophone band recently formed by
the company, which will be composed of four groups
of fifteen pieces each, making a total of sixty pieces.
As soon as the art of saxophone playing has been
attained the groups will be put into one large band
and a concert given. The only requirement for mem-
bership in the new organization is the purchase of a
Conn saxopdhone from the local store, which entitles
the purchaser to free instruction.
