NEW DUO ART DANCE ROLLS
Willard Robison, Leader of Deep River Or-
chestra, Kansas City, Mo., to Record His
Compositions Exclusively for Aeolian.
Willard Robison, composer, pianist and leader of
the famous "Deep River Orchestra," has contracted
to record his dance numbers exclusively for the Duo-
Art Reproducing piano. Robison, who has been a
sensation in popular music circles in Kansas City in
the past year, is now in New York. Prior to his
arrangement with the Aeolian Company, he entered
a three-year contract with Paul Whiteman, whereby
he is to act as pianist with the Whiteman Orchestra
and arrange his own compositions for them.
Robison is looked upon as one of the most unique
and original of the popular music artists produced in
recent years. He comes from the southwest, and for
several years has been coming steadily into promi-
nence through his Deep River Orchestra and his own
compositions.
Robison's songs are absolutely original in style,
following none of the set formulas of harmony and
form that characterize most popular music of the day.
He has lived for many years in the South and he
knows thoroughly the true quality of native negro
music, especially the spirituals. His music is full cf
this color, while his harmonies are his own. They
follow no set rules, but lean toward the "modernistic."
As a pianist Robison is also phenomenal. He is
left-handed, and has developed a super-normal power
for that hand in piano playing. A few mouths ago
Paul Whiteman heard Robison and his Deep River
Orchestra in Kansas City playing some of Robison's
own compositions. Whiteman was so struck by their
originality and fascinating quality of rhythm that he
immediately took steps to persuade Robison to join
him in New York.
J. W. Jenkins Sons' Music Co., of Kansas City,
Mo., has already published eleven of Robison's songs,
which have sold in great numbers throughout the
middle west and southwest. For the Duo-Art Robi-
son will first record his "Peaceful Valley" and "Sock-
ology." These two numbers are being featured by
