The provisions of the tariff law authorize the Sec-
retary of the Treasury to prohibit the importation of
commodities produced by manufacturers refusing to
permit investigations of their cost of productions for
the purpose of determining the basis upon which duty
shall be assessed. This action has led to the pro-
tests which may bring about a change in methods.
Foreign manufacturers are very jealous-of their cost
figures and object to giving them out on the ground
that competitors might be.nefit. It is believed that
the Treasury Department will be able to determine
the proper duty sufficiently by taking figures on a
few items entering into cost of production, which will
settle the difficulty.
L. C. Huntoon of the Forbes-Huntoon Music Co.,
Cheyenne, Wyo., recently disposed of his interest
in the business. The firm is now known as the
Forbes Music Shoppe, with Mrs. Warren A. Forbes
at its head.
