PRESTO
STARR BRANCH PROVIDES FEATURE
GOOD REPORT OF L SOUTH
BY LEE S. JONES
General Manager of Nelson-Wiggen Piano
Co., Chicago, Says Dealers in That Section
Realize Opportunities in Automatics.
The great opportunities in automatic pianos and
orchestras are fast being realized by the music dealers
in the south," said Lee S. Jones, general manager of
the Nelson-Wiggen Piano Co., Chicago, this week.
"And one of the most evident things is that the Nel-
son-Wiggen line of automatic instruments continues
to grow in favor amazingly in Dixie."
Mr. Jones has just returned from a tour of the
southern states, where he found dealers featuring the
Nelson-Wiggen Piano Co.'s line in a very pleased
state of mind. The automatic field, he said, is a prac-
tically new one, but the energetic dealers are recog-
nizing the opportunities for big sales and generous
profits.
"Besides the musical features of our instruments,
which the southern dealers admit are splendid, the
beauty of the Nelson-Wiggen designs, and admirable
finish, are powerful in attracting the trade to our line.
The Nelson-Wiggen automatic pianos and orches-
trions are acknowledged to be ready sellers, because
of their dependable construction and musical excel-
lences," added Mr. Jones, who said that the factory
is making a capacity run in order to keep abreast of
the orders.
The accompanying cut was made from a photo-
graph of a scene at the Radio Show in Cincinnati
recently. It shows an interesting feature of the event
arranged and directed by W. N. Purnell, manager
of the Cincinnati branch of the Starr Piano Co., Rich-
mond, Ind.
A Gennett recording equipment was brought from
Richmond and placed on the main platform as shown
in the picture. The Chubb-Steinberg Orchestra of
Cincinnati, an exclusive Gennett recording organiza-
tion, was selected to show the processes of recording.
While the piece selected, "Because They All Love
You," was being recorded for a Gennett record, it
was also broadcasted. The wax impression was then
played for the spectators on the recording machine
just as done in the Starr Piano Co.'s laboratory.
The demonstration included a display of recording
waxes, copper plates, best records, "mothers" and
masters, and material from which the record is
pressed.
