Mahogany Regains Its Lead as the Principal Hon-
duran Export During Last Year.
Complete returns for 1924 will show that mahog-
any has regained its place at the head of the list of
commodities exported from British Honduras, which
it had held from the early days of the colony until a
few years ago when chicle took first place in point
of value. The quantity of mahogany and cedar logs
exported from British Honduras for the year 1924,
says Consul W. W. Early, Belize, will be in excess
of 14,000,000 board feet, and a little over 12,000,000
of this went to the United States. The quantity in
1923 was just under 10,000,000 board feet.
The difference is accounted for in part by the dry
season in 1923' and plenty of flood water in the
streams and rivers in 1924, which enabled the contrac-
tors to deliver their wood at the port of shipment.
The outlook for the exportation of an equal or greater
quantity of wood in 1925 is bright. The lumber in-
dustry is largely financed by American capital.
