TRANSPORTATION PROBLEMS
Important Meeting at Terre Haute, Ind., Arranged
by Mid-West Regional Advisory Board.
The fourth meeting of the Mid-West Regional Ad-
visory Board will be held at Hotel Deming, Terre
Haute, Ind.. January 23 and Robert Hula, general
secretary, says in notice that this meeting will be of
great importance to shippers in every section of the
country.
"Not the least of these problems has been that
involving periodical car shortage with consequent
loss of vast sums of money due to inability to secure
adequate transportation equipment at the time and
place most needed," writes Air. Hula. "The carriers
of the United States, in recognition of the importance
of this matter, are doing everything possible to in-
sure against future car shortages. A billion and one-
half dollars have just been spent by the railroads to
add to their properties and to place themselves in a
position to promptly handle all tonnage offered.
However, they appreciate, as do shippers, that car
shortages are not to be avoided solely through having
a large number of cars. The question of having the
right number of cars of the right kind at the right
place at the right time is the thing that really presents
cause for concern. In short, car distribution is the
big factor to be considered and with this in mind we
are enabled to grasp the real significance of the or-

Music dealers express pleasure at the announce-
ment of the new Gulbransen reproducing piano rolls
put out by the Gulbransen company, Chicago, and
all are eager to get the first sample sets.
"Gulbransen registering piano rolls are specially
picked music rolls with all melody and harmony notes
checked so that they can be easily picked out by the
Gulbransenist," says the ''Bulletin." "They will be
furnished in sets of twelve rolls, packed in an attrac-
tive container. Each roll, on the box label and on
the roll itself, is stamped as a Gulbransen registering
piano roll."
The first set is ready for delivery. Gulbransen
dealers who have received it are pleased with it.
"They will get better and better," states the com-
pany. "In the first set, for instance, we had to take
popular numbers in dance time and check them, but
in the next set there will be a popular number cut
as a song, and without any superfluous perforations
whatever. One of the popular numbers of the day
has been chosen for this innovation, and it is pre-
dicted that this roll, when released, will be the fore-
runuar of better recordings in popular numbers.
"The dealer is not required to pay anything extra
for Gulbransen registering piano rolls. At the price
of ordinary music rolls he is furnished these records,
which are worth probably three times as much as
unchecked music rolls, to the new owner of a Gul-
bransen."
