BALDWIN PIANO FAVORED
BY GRAND OPERA STARS
Cincinnati Industry Supplying More Pianos to
Members of Chicago Civic Opera Com-
pany, This Year than Ever Before.
The Baldwin grand and reproducing grand has
long been regarded as instruments supreme in musi-
cal performance by grand opera stars of the Chicago
Civic Opera Company.
This season members of the Chicago Civic Opera
Company have especially shown their preference for
the Baldwin piano. Toti del Monti, formerly with
that company but now with the Metropolitan Opera
Company, whose performance is viewed with a suc-
cess greater than that of Galli-Curci, has chosen a
Baldwin piano.
The critics have pronounced Toti del Monti the
greatest coloratura soprano of this generation, and
the selection of the Baldwin is significant in the fact
that perfect musical accompaniment is of prime im-
portance to the work of successful artists.
. Toti del Monti comes to this country after an enor-
mous success in Italy and South America and has
chosen Baldwin Style H grand for her apartment.
Richmond Harris, head of the artists and repro-
ducing piano department of the Baldwin Piano Co.,
323 S. Wabash avenue, Chicago, announced last week
that the Baldwin hoi^se is supplying more pianos to
noted grand opera stars this season than ever before.
Mr. Harris is a capable piano man and understands
every phase of grand opera, the stars and their needs,
tmd accordingly has exploited the Baldwin instrument,
which has been chosen upon its merits and ability to
meet every service required.
Mr. Harris has sold to Rosa Raisa and her hus-
band, Gmcoma Rimini, a Style M reproducing piano
for their home in Verona, Italy, where it.is used in
rehearsals. Rosa Raisa through her enormous suc-
cess recently in Italy has taken her place as the lead-
ing dramatic soprano of the day. She was selected
by Tosini to assume the leading roll in Boito's latest
opera "Nerone," where seats sold as high as $40
each.
Chaliapin, famous Russian singer, has purchased a
Style K grand for his home in Paris. He has been
an ardent Baldwin admirer and did not consider his
beautiful home complete without an instrument from
the fine line of the Cincinnati industry. •
Chaliapin will arrive in Chicago Dec. 4 to assume

his roll with the Chicago opera, where he will appear
as a guest artist until January 1, after which he will
go on a concert tour. Chaliapin is known to be the
world's highest paid opera singer.
Mr. Harris, who has so capably represented the
Baldwin line to famous opera singers, is himself an
ardent supporter of grand opera, and in commenting
upon the Chicago opera, he said:
"At last, opera in Chicago has been put on a self-
supporting basis and musically is now second to none
in the world."
AIMS TO BE POPULAR.
Adequate space for the proper showing of its lines
of Hardman, C. C. Kurtzmann, Hallet & Davis and
Milton pianos by the Carder Piano Co., Atlanta, Ga.,
has been secured in the new store at 61 North Pryor
street, where the company has about four times the
floor space that it had at the old quarters at 103
North Pryor street. The new store has been com-
pletely remodeled, decorated and furnished and every
accessory for making buying pleasant for customers
has been provided. The object of Manager Carder is
to make it the most popular music store in Atlanta.
NEW TONK FOLDER.
The Tonk Reproducing Piano is the subject of a
new folder issued by William Tonk & Bros., Inc.,
Tenth avenue and Thirty-sixth streets, New York
City. . It is a forceful bit of publicity which empha-
sizes the artistic qualities of the instrument and asso-
ciates it with the honored names in pianistic art. It
is pointed out in the folder that the music of Josef
Lhevine, Teresa Carreno, Ignatz J. Paderewski,
Josef Hofmann and other masters is available in re-
producing rolls to be used with the Tonk Reproduc-
ing Piano.
BUSY KANSAS DEALERS.
A new music store at 314 South Main street, Pratt,
Kans., is owned by Carl Miltner and W. W. Cun-
ningham, both of Wichita. Both of these men have
been engaged in business for the Eberhardt-Hays
Music Company, of Wichita, making Pratt and this
vicinity their territory tor several years. Last week
they began a special sale of musical instruments to
interest the Christmas buyers.

REMODELING PLANS OF
BUSH & LANE MUSIC HOUSE
Progressive Seattle, Wash., Store to Be Enlarged and
Improved to Meet Business Requirements.
The Bush & Lane Music House, Seattle, Wash ,
will soon begin remodeling its Third avenue store in
conformity with plans designed to give more ade-
quate opportunities for the operation of a constantly
growing business. In addition to a rearrangement of
the main wareroom, which also will be enlarged, a
number of smaller showrooms and demonstrating
rooms for pianos, players and reproducing pianos
will be provided.
The work will be begun at the conclusion of the
remodeling sale now being held or possibly not until
the holiday business is over, according to Manager
Charles T. Corbin. The plans also include improve-
ments in the phonograph department. The most
modern time-saving method of phonograph record
selection will be installed that will add to the pleas-
ures of buying and make the Bush & Lane record
section a more favored place than ever before with
the phonograph owners.
The prestige first gained by the piano department
of the Bush & Lane Music House, following its for-
mation in Seattle, was also extended to the phono-
graph section when that became an important part
of the business. The Bush & Lane phonograph is
now a most important factor in the progressive house.
And what has been accomplished in the favor of the
public for the pianos and phonographs is in turn
being achieved by the newest department—that of
musical merchandise.
NEW AKRON ,O., FIRM
The Grand Piano Co., Akron, O., recently opened

adition to pianos, a line of talking machines is car-
ried. Other lines will be taken on later, according to
Mr. Smith.
ANOTHER O. K. HOUCK BRANCH.
Another branch store has been opened in Mem-
phis, Tenn., by the O. K. Houck Piano Co. It
si at 1296 Madison avenue, and was established for
the convenience of residents living in that esction
of the city. W. W. Wade, who has been connected
with the'main store for the past ten years, has been
made manager of the new branch, which will handle
the same lines of pianos, phonographs and accessories
carried by the main store. The policy of one price
and no commissions, which has distinguished the
O. K. Houck house in all its branches, will be main-
tained in the new store.
