Meyer Davis, music, a New York organization of
sixty-two orchestras and over 700 musicians, offers a
$100 prize for a word to replace "jazz." According
to Mr. Davis, the latter word is undignified. "It is
a misnomer. It casts discredit upon modern dance
music. The new word must avoid these errors. It
must be at once dignified and comprehensively de-
scriptive." There are no restrictions in the contest
except that the number submitted by one person must
not exceed five and the names must be in the hands
of WEBH radiocasting station by August 16. The
winner will be announced September 1.
