PHILIPPINE MAHOGANY IMPORTS.
The lumber imports from the Philippine Islands
into the United States during August were 17,000
board feet of mahogany logs and 2,438,000 board feet
of sawed cabinet woods. This amount of sawed
cabinet woods was the largest monthly import dur-
ing 1923, and equaled about 80 per cent of the total
1922 import and a little more than the total 1921 im-
port. The 1921 import of sawed cabinet woods from
the Philippines was 2,391,000 board feet, the 1922 im-
port 2,901,000 board feet, and the total for 1923 up to
the end of August 5,974,000 board feet.

RELIABLE PIANO STRINGS
High Grade Piano Makers Realize the Potency of
Schaff Strings to An Instrument.
, The Schaff Piano String Mfg. Co., 2009-2021 Cly-
bourne avenue, Chicago, is producing a commodity
absolutely essential to the piano industry. The fact
that the large and efficient Schaff factory in its efforts
to produce the finest wound strings has resulted in
the ultimate perfection of this article is suggestive
of the influence of that industry.
The close relation existing between the bass string
and the piano makes the demand an incessant one.
However, there are no great variations in the de-
mand for piano strings; it remains practically the
same throughout the different seasons. The piano
trade has its off seasons and relapses, but there are
no bad seasons with the Schaff Piano Strings Co.
This is very important to any industry. The steady
production of the Schaff product, and the efficient
devices used in its making, combined with the no-
rush atmosphere prominent in the shop, is the secret
of the fine strings produced in that factory.
Adhering to the original policy of the founder,
the Schaff Piano String Co. continues to produce the
best, and its strings continue to be big favorites in
the trade.
