MUSIC SCHOOL FOR VETERANS.
The Knights of Columbus night school in Wash-
ington, D. C, now include courses in brass, reed and
other orchestra instruments. The various courses are
under the direction of competent instructors, some of
whom are nationally known soloists. All ex-service
men interested in music are admitted free to the
classes and a nominal tuition fee is charged those
veterans of the world war. Registrations are very
large and the effect of the new school on musical
merchandise sales is very marked in the national capi-
tal.
T H E RUBBER SUPPLY.
In 1906 Ecuador exported 1,394,000 pounds of
rubber. In 1922 it exported 7,317 pounds. Low
prices of rubber, insufficient to cover cost of gather-
ing and marketing, are given as the causes in a re-
port by Consul General F. W. Goding. A revival in
rubber production, under the stimulus of present
prices, appears to be in progress, however, 8,000
pounds having been exported in the first seven
months of 1923. The export duty on rubber was re-
moved in November, 1921.
W I L L I A M McDOUGALL'S T R I P .
Conn saxophones are among the most popular com-
modities in the music goods stores of Oregon, accord-
ing to William McDougall of the McDougall-Conn Co.,
of Portland, who has just returned from a round of
visits to the trade in the state. A visit from Mr. Mc-
Dougall is always appreciated by the alert musical
merchandise dealers because of his helpfulness in sug-
gesting means to stimulate business locally.

L E A T H E R DEMAND GOOD.
The demand for player leathers is reported excep-
tionally good by T. L. Lutkins, Inc., 40 Spruce street,
New York. The special department in this company
which supplies the pneumatic leather wants of the
playerpiano manufacturers is one of the busiest in
the house. In order to procure the skins for making
this variety of leather a representative of the com-
pany makes purchasing trip abroad twice a year.
