The music printers of Leipzig, Germany, have been
compelled, under pressure of the recent substantial
increase in the cost of production, to raise the prices
of their publictaions to their clients by 25 per cent.
The Circle Music Publishing Co., Cincinnati, has
been granted a patent on a trademark to be used in
merchandising sheet music.
M. Witmark & Sons, publishers, New York,
moved recently to its new quarters at 165 Broadway.
James Burns, a colored song writer who died re-
cently, was one of the writers of "Ballin' the Jack,"
"Gooffer Dust" and other songs and alone wrote
"Shoot the Rabbit," and "Coolin' the Coffee Pot,"
produced recently.
• The Shuck Music Co., Glendale, Cal., carries a fine
stock of classical and popular music. Particular at-
tention is given to the professional and teacher busi-
ness in music and books.
E. G. Council, "The Music Man," conducts the
sheet music department of the Brook Mays Piano
Co., Dallas, Tex.
A. biographical course dealing with the lives of
great composers has been launched by the University
of California.
Schmoller & Mueller Piano Co., Lincoln, Neb., has
installed a sheet music department.
The Kratz Piano Co., Canton, O., has built up a
big business in standard and teachers' music.
A. E. Kemper has purchased the sheet music busi-
ness of H. Boffa in Clarksburg, W. Va.
The treatment of music in education is covered in
a book soon to be brought out by Mrs. L. V. Sweezey,
director of music in Mills College, Oakland, Cal.
Henry Page has closed out his sheet music shop
in the Orpheum Arcade, Akron, O. He specialized
in classical and teachers' music.
ALERT MUNCIE HOUSE.
That summer is a good time for music study is im-
pressed on the parents of Muncie, Ind., by the San-
ders Music Shop, where special attention is given to
the sheet music department, which is kept up to date
with a full selection of both classical and popular
song and instrumental numbers. The firm is desirous
of meeting the nedes of both teachers and music
pupils and carries in stock one of the largest assort-
ments of sheet music and other supplies to be found
anywhere in eastern Indiana. Practically anything
needed by the teacher or the pupil, it is said, can be
found at the shop.
A SHEET MUSIC WINDOW.
The advantages of a window display for the en-
couragement of sheet music sales is well understood
by the management of the Sheldon Music House,
Charles City, la., which recently achieved the "big-
gest week" in sheet music with the aid of an attrac-
tive window show of the current music hits. The
window was not an experiment in the Charles City
house. The use of window displays for sheet music
is continuous.
