STRAUBE DEALERS
COMMEND FINE LINE
(Me,
Letters from Representatives in Many Places Cheer
Officials of Company.
Letters of commendation and praise from individual
buyers are not unusual with houses who strive con-
tinuously to put out quality products; but letters of
whole-hearted praise from dealers buying the prod-
ucts at wholesale are another thing, especially at a
time when sagacious buying is the order of the day.
Therefore the following extracts, taken from longer
letters received recently by the Straube Piano Com-
pany, Hammond, Ind., are enough to gladden the
hearts of officials of this progressive firm.

"In trying out the new Straubes which arrived yes-
terday," one dealer wrote last week, "I fell head over

heels in love with the Artronome action. It is quite
the finest thing I have ever seen."
"I have just concluded," reads another letter,

sample, and I am ready to say that there is nothing

like your player action. The way the lower bellows
bring you in contact with the roll is a revelation. I
have operated practically every other kind of a
player and, to, tell the truth, I didn't think it was
possible to get such a response. I want to congratu-

PRESTO BUYERS GUIDE
Methods in Book Declared Excellent by National
Association of Cost Accountants.
Praise from experts for the book "Accounting for
Retail Music Stores," issued by the Trade Service
Bureau of the Music Industries Chamber of Com-
merce, is found in ci review of that publication in the
July 16 Bulletin of the National Association of Cost
Accountants. The methods are described as "ex-
cellent" and "should prove of great value to those
interested in music store accounting." Following is
the review:
The Music Industries Chamber of Commerce, 105
West 40th street, New York City, has issued, under
date of May 25, 1923, a booklet of 45 pages, "Ac-
counting for Retail Music Stores." It is the "result
of suggestions made by the Chamber two years ago
to the business schools of several leading universities
and colleges to the effect that the need in the music
trade for a more general use of proper accounting
methods presented an unusual opportunity for re-
search and investigation."
Under the supervision of Professor -Archie M.
Peisch, of the Amos Tuck School Faculty of Dart-
mouth College, and a special committee of the Cham-
ber, the accounting system mentioned above was pre-
pared which could be recommended for use by retail
music merchants. The booklet describing the system
is divided into the following six chapters: 1. Gen-
eral; 2. Classification of Accounts; 3. Forms; 4.
Methods; 5. Preparation of Statements; and 6. De-
termination of Taxable Income.
Chapter 1—General—deals with the value of scien-
tific accounting, and contains typical financial state-
ments for music stores, and the requirements of an
efficient system of accounting. Chapter 2 is a de-
tailed classification of accounts. The,next chapter
contains 12 accounting forms and records. Chapter
4 explains in detail accounting methods applicable to
a music store. The succeeding chapter contains a
trial balance and financial statements with explana-
tions as to how the latter are prepared.
The dast chapter describes how taxable income is
determined, taking up such matters as alternative
methods of reporting profit on installment sales, ac-
counting procedure on deferred profits basis, analysis
of accounts receivable, loss on repossession and the
advantages and disadvantages of determining col-
lected and uncollected gross profit for the purpose of
arriving at net taxable income.
The booklet is gotten up in good style and the
methods described are excellent. It should prove of
great value to those interested in music store
accounting.
The N. A. C .A. received a copy of the system
through the courtesy of C. L, Dennis, manager of
1he Trade Service Bureau of the Music Industries
Chamber of Commerce. Members of the N. A. C. A.
may obtain copies for $3.00.
