ADVICE FOR ROLL BUYERS
Billings Player Roll Company, Milwaukee, Makes
Valuable Suggestion to Staffnote Roll Customers.
Excellent advice on keeping a roll stock is con-
veyed by the Billings Player Roll company, Milwau-
kee, in a letter to dealers accompanying the January
bulletin of Staffnote Rolls.
"Your music roll stock is the endless chain of prof-
its, prestige, and satisfaction. The wise Dealer knows
this and is zealous to keep his stock complete. The
only satisfactory way to both yourself and your cus-
tomers is to order one each of the new rolls. The
investment is so small considering the revenue and
results, that the order should be placed as a matter of
course," is the wise suggestion of the Milwaukee firm.
"Some people think a horse chestnut carried in the
pocket will cure rheumatism. But not carrying a
complete roll stock will never build up your roll
trade," says the letter. "We have been urging and
advising our dealers to order one each, at least, of the
monthly rolls and now we are in receipt of numerous
letters from the Dealers endorsing and praising this
plan. One dealer writes: "I had no idea the plan
was so successful. Formerly I thought my selection
would meet with my trade's demands, but now I
know I was mistaken. I find that I can sell them all,
and please book me for one each every month."
tions are considered more healthful by the veneer
men. Anyway the possible wants of the radio cabinet
makers are considered good things to keep track of.

SUCCESS WITH COLUMBIA RECORD.
The new process Columbia records are recognized
by Jones Piano Company, 807 Walnut street, Des
Moines, la., as a great advance. At the end of the
first week in January the store was sold out com-
pletely in the new process Columbia records. So
popular were they with the holiday shoppers that
what was considered the largest stock of Columbia
phonographs warehoused by any Iowa dealer failed
to supply the Yuletide demands. The Jones Piano
Company says the phonograph sales and demonstra-
tion rooms will be enlarged to meet the increased
demand for the popular new process record.
THE PIANO REPAIR SHOP.
The passing of every week shows a widening of the
circle of customers of The Piano Repair Shop, 425
South Wabash avenue, Chicago. The increase in the
number of clients of the shop indicates several things,
and the most obvious one is that The Piano Repair
Shop fills a requirement in the retail piano trade for
a wide territory. But another factor that helps the
growth in patronage is the conscientious care used in
making of repairs and alterations. In the wide range
of the activities of the shop instruments are remodeled
and refinished, actions and keys repaired and player
actions installed and everything is done with a
guarantee.

DEVISES NEW PHONOGfTAPH HORN.
Horns used on telephones and phonographs are not
of the most efficient shape for the condensing of
sound, in the opinion of Dr. A. L. Foley, head of the
department of physics and research professor at In-
diana University. Dr. Foley said he disagrees with
the popular theory that sound comes through horns
as water goes through a funnel. He declares that
most of the energy backs out of horns instead of
being condensed at the small end. He has designed
several new types of horns in accordance with his
theory.
