Drops In On A. M. Carl and Is Still Boosting Cable-
Made Goods.
Newton, la., Nov. 9, 1920.
Editor Presto: Geo. Slawson, dean of The Cable
Co.'s piano men, dropped in on us today. For many
moons we've missed him and it was like tasting pie
that mother used to make to see him again.
George gets no older and possesses the same charm-
ing and engaging personality that he did back in the
eighties when we first learned to love him.
He is still boosting the Cable-made goods, and as
a side line talks brighter times ahead. Our office
girl is a little black-eyed, dyed-in-the-wool Demo-
crat, proud of the fact that her first vote was cast for
the Democratic party. Her father is a native of old
Kentucky and her Democracy is part of her inher-
itance.
After arriving home she called the writer up and
requested that we inform Mr. Slawson that while the
Democratic party was defeated, it isn't defunct, be-
cause Dad said so, and, being a Democrat all his life,
he ought to know.
She thinks George is all O. K. and the pianos he
sells are the best ever, but his politics are "rotten."
We are sending the message to Presto, as George
had gone when it was delivered.
Yours truly,
A. M. CARL.

THE DISTINCTIVENESS OF
THE STEINWAY PIANO
Strauch Bros.
Tribute to Its Artistic Qualities Printed by O. K.
Houck Piano Co., Little Rock, Ark.
The Steinway piano was featured in an impressive
way this week by the O. K. Houck Piano Co., Little
Rock. The newspaper publicity of the firm, which
has its main store in Memphis, Tenn., and another
branch in Nashville, Tenn., is uniform in its digni-
fied strength. In the display devoted to the Stein-
way this was said:
"To own a piano is one thing—to own the Instru-
ment of Immortals is another. The Steinway is
the piano over whose keyboard Richard Wagner
dreamed his visions and enriched the world. It is
the Voice with which Liszt, Gounod, Rubinstein and
their immortal fellows spoke to mankind. It is the
piano of Paderewski—and the piano upon which
Hofmann and others are playing their way to
immortality today. It is the chosen instrument of
the masters and the lovers of immortal music."

JAPS WELL REPRESENTED
IN ARGENTINE REPUBLIC
Everywhere Importers of Nippon Now Constitute an
Increasing Group.
''A few years ago the Japanese trader was scarce-
ly known and little talked of in the Buenos Aires
market, but today the energetic representatives of
the land of the Mikado constitute a fairly large and
constantly increasing group," says Vice Consul
Frank P>. O. Grady, at Buenos Aires, Argentine, in
a consular report.
"In general, it may be said that Japanese houses
are well represented here. Their goods are reported
as being of satisfactory quality, and in certain lines
they are able to compete easily with those of other
nations. However, one hears it stated that they are
not in a position to meet the competition of the rep-
resentatives of some other nations because of greater
distance and because of the fact that the Japanese
do not consume Argentina meat or grain, and do
not bid for such products here as wool and hides.
Nevertheless, it is conceded that the Japanese are
alert and that they will let no opportunity escape to
develop trade relations. In the question of shipping,
they are especially well equipped to carry on trade."
DELIVERY IN SOUTH AMERICA.
A man living in the interior of South America
who wants a piano does not order one sent by motor
truck, according to the export officials. Peons load
the piano on a framework of poles and trudge across
the open country, often a distance of 50 miles, with
the instrument on their shoulders. For his services
a peon gets about 40 cents a day and a chance to
hear the piano played now and then. Accounts show
South Americans do not care for jazz, but prefer
classical music. They buy the best instruments, with
the player piano and the guitar in best demand. The
talking machine also is popular.
