Today Costs Are Considerably Higher Than in
April, Says Weaver Piano Co., Inc.
The Weaver Piano Company, Inc., York, Pa.,
does not evade the ticklish question of prices in its
periodic letter to dealers. In the letter issued last
week this is said:
"The price question has come up in many forms
in the past six years. Recently it has taken on a
new aspect and there are cross currents of thought
regarding it. Mr. Lynn Sheeley of Morristown,
Tenn., has been contending that the April 1, 1920,
retail lists are too low in comparison with those of
other pianos he mentions that are inferior in quality.
Furthermore, Mr. Sheeley thinks the dealer is enti-
tled to a somewhat wider margin of gross profit, and
so we had prepared new lists dated August 15, 1920,
starting the York straight at $600 and the Weaver at
$700. Copies of these lists will gladly be sent you
on request.
"As regards the wholesale prices, we can see no
sign of a reduction during 1920. Our present prices
were made April 5, 1920, and were based on material
and labor costs then ruling. Since then, costs in-
creased greatly to about September 1. Since then
there has been some decline, but today costs are
considerably higher than they were April 5, 1920.
We have hopes for a further decline, but it will have
to come much more rapidly than it has to date if
wholesale prices are to decline in 1921."
S. C. Mitchell, proprietor of the Baldwin Piano
Store, Centralia, 111., has made good his ambition
to make it "the general music store of Centralia." Mr.
Mitchell accomplished his ambition by providing
a stock of goods distinguished by merit and variety.
