HIGHLY PROBABLE CONDITIONS
A few weeks ago Presto published the account of a thrilling
trip of Fred Sherman of Sherman, Clay & Co., San Francisco,
Cal., made in an airplane from Durant Field, Oakland, to Stock-
ton, Cal., a distance of 90 miles and undertaken for a business
purpose. By utilizing the flying machine Mr. Sherman was
enabled to beat all competitors to a juicy church organ sale.
It is only a little while ago that C. B. Garritson, president
of the Kroeger Piano Co., flew in an airplane from the factory
in Stamford, Co"nn., to New York, to keep a business engage-
ment. It was an urgent call and the airplane was deemed the
most desirable for a quick trip.
When the aerial mail service was inaugurated by the Govern-
ment and the first trip of the service was made, Paul B. Klugh,
president of the Republic Player Roll Corporation celebrated
the event by sending a packet of . Republic rolls by aerial mail to
a customer in Washington, D. C. Associating his company with
a national event was a bright bit of advertising.
But the incidents cited above are only an earnest of others
that will soon be a part of the everyday life of the piano trade
and industry. The cartoon printed on this page is drawn with
the license for exaggeration ace orded to the cartoonist. But is
not every incident pictured plausible? The incidents of the
street crossing will in time be duplicated in the aerial intersec-
tions and the aerial copper's life be as full of anxieties as that
of the one on terra firma today.
The sky-scraping piano building is no longer a wonder. In
nearly all the larger cities they tower into the atmosphere.
And what more natural uses for the roofs than utilization as
airship docks. Just as sure as there are many true words ut-
tered in fun, there are many true anticipations in the sketches
of the cartoonists.
