JAZZ WAILS SWAN SONQ
Soon It Will Be But a Memory, Says Writer Who
Longs for Minuet.
Jazz? Alas and alack! It's on the direct road to
oblivion without a round-trip ticket, says the Detroit
Journal.
The blooie-bloo of the trombone will soon be but
a memory of other days.
"It's an offspring of the late and lamented—in
some circles—John Barleycorn," a local band leader
said Saturday, "and as such will soon follow in its
footsteps."
"Jazz, so popular for a time, is on the wane," says
another. "It will soon be about as popular as
Trotzky.
"The people want pep and lots of it in their dance
music, but they draw the line on shrieks and yells
and howls and wails as being musical," he says. Ac-
companying jazz on its last journey are the wild
and woolly dances and ballroom contortions never to
return, say dancing masters.
The more sedate and more graceful dances of
former days—the minuet, the waltz, the two-step,
are coming back into their own, they say.
Jazz dancing has been banned by many hotels.
The so-called "side-stepping" is taboo.
And druggists expect a drop in face powder sales,
because "cheek dancing" also has been put among
the dances that were.
