Vending association pushes
for micro markets
The Maryland-D.C. Vending Association hosted its Conve-
nience Services Day in Annapolis, Feb. 8. Members met with
legislators to discuss the convenience services industry, its
economic impact, and pending legislation.
Legislation regarding micro markets is currently pending
in the senate (SB 758) and house (HB 1087), and is spon-
sored by Sen. Edward Reilly and Delegate C.T. Wilson.
“Micro markets are an innovative and rapidly expanding
retail food and beverage concept that provide expanded con-
sumer value and represents a blend of traditional vending,
freshly prepared packaged foods, and beverage selections,”
said Steve Boucher, president of the MD/DC. “For this con-
cept to continue to grow, it is essential for the passage of
micro market legislation to occur at the state level.”
The micro market bill will be discussed during the upcom-
ing committee hearing in the Senate March 8. The MD/DC
leadership will be present to offer testimony. For more infor-
mation, visit (www.mddcvending.org).
