COIN-OP NEWS
AMOA Saves the Rack
An Amusement and Music Operators Association’s recent
newsletter featured updates on its Save the Rack breast cancer
awareness promotion and its continuing education programs.
Through its Save the Rack promotion, the AMOA has
been creating breast cancer awareness since 2104. Now, via
a partnership with AMOA’s Membership/Marketing Commit-
tee and Championship Billiards, a more simplified Coin-Op
Cares Save the Rack rails kit is offered to billiards operators.
Introduced as a turnkey promotional program that fea-
tures a pink tablecloth and other materials, the new kit can
be customized to also include logos, including logos of spon-
sored organizations.
The set of rails also includes a digital promotional kit.
Kits are available for seven and eight-foot tables. For more
information, contact Maggie Kapinos at the AMOA office at
(800)937-2662.
Earlier this year, the AMOA’s Continuing Education Com-
mittee launched a new format to its continuing education
lineup. Parts of the On Campus session and the On the Road
session now have a date and location.
Instead of traveling to the University of Notre Dame in
South Bend, Ind., all four weekends, participants of the Class
XVIII On Campus session now includes two fall weekends
in conjunction with AMOA’s On the Road Program and two
spring weekends at the university campus. The fall session
and the On the Road session is scheduled for Oct. 28-30 at
the Denver Airport Marriott Hotel at Gateway Park in Den-
ver, Colo. For more information, visit (www.amoa.com)
Alehouse partners
with Player One
Amusement Group
Almost a year after the doors closed on a popular
sports bar in a suburb of Boston, it has reopened as the
newest location of Barrett’s Alehouse. The facility chose
the Player One Amusement Group to design and devel-
op the 23,000-square-foot space, including a 50-piece,
4,500-square-foot arcade and a redemption counter.
“It’s been an amazing couple of months to see through the
building process, finalizing the game room, and seeing it all
come together,” said Dave Barry, managing partner at Bar-
rett’s Alehouse West Bridgewater. “From the moment you
step through the door, our guests can expect a modern, state-
of-the-art experience.”
Barrett’s Alehouse was fully renovated over the past cou-
ple of months and also includes a restaurant with a spacious
dining room, two bars, and four private function areas. The
arcade utilizes Embed’s latest debit card system. For more
information, visit (www.winwithp1ag.com).
John Maurer passes away
crane designer and importer.
That success let to multiple awards for the company,
including three Amusement and Music Operators Association
Innovator Awards.
Maurer was also a member of the New Jersey Amusement
Association for 25 years. During that time, he served as its
president for four years and on its Board of Directors for 14
years.
Born in Tarrytown, N.Y., Maurer was raised in Metuchen,
N.J., before moving to High Bridge, then finally settling in
Whitehouse Station 16 years ago. There, he and his wife,
Kimberly, raised their two sons, Andrew and Christopher.
Also surviving are his parents, Mary and Robert Maurer;
sister, Laura; two brothers, Robert and Michael; his loyal dog,
Rocket; and many nieces and nephews.
A prayer service was held Aug. 12, followed by interment
at St. Bernard Cemetery in Bridgewater. Memorial contribu-
tions may be made in his memory to Memorial Sloan Ketter-
ing Cancer Center, 136 Mountain Boulevard, Basking Ridge,
NJ 07920.
After a lengthy battle
against cancer, Coast to Coast
Entertainment co-founder John
Maurer died at St. Clair’s Hos-
pice in Dover, N.J. on Aug. 8.
He was only 50.
Still a mainstay at industry
events and expos, Maurer kept
working through his illness,
usually manning the booths.
He and business partner Gary
Balaban founded Coast to
Coast Entertainment 17 years ago and led the company
together, even after they sold it to Elaut USA in 2015.
Before founding Coast to Coast Entertainment, both
Maurer and Balaban graduated Middlesex College with
engineering degrees, but soon found themselves in the
coin-operated amusement business by owning and operat-
ing arcades on the Jersey Shore, which provided the experi-
ence that led to Coast to Coast Entertainment’s success as a
