Sega adds new kids
air hockey table
Following the success of the children-sized Hello Kitty Air
Hockey table, Sega has added a Sonic-branded version to its
lineup.
Sonic Baby Air Hockey table is crafted with official Sonic
branding. The smaller playfield and lowered height are spe-
cially designed to encourage kids to enjoy this classic arcade
game.
Sonic Baby Air Hockey features LED scoring and timer
in the playfield and Sonic-themed sounds. The game is also
has durable parts, a scratch resistant playfield, and reinforced
structure. For more information, visit (www.segaarcade.com).
U.S. National Video
Game Team update
On March 23, Lonnie McDonald hit a milestone in his
years-long Joust arcade tour as he made an appearance at
the National Video Game Museum in Frisco, Texas. This
visit marked the 150th Joust arcade machine he’s posted a
score of 9,999,999 points on in an ongoing tour that has
covered all 50 states.
For the milestone stop, McDonald was flanked by USN-
VGT teammate Patrick Scott Patterson, co-owner of the
modern-day team. John Newcomer, the creator of Joust for
Williams Electronics back in 1982, appeared in person
toward the end of the historic run.
McDonald’s eventual score of 10,214,800 points shat-
tered the previous Museum arcade record of 250,000
points. For scores over 10 million points, the high score
table stops at 9,999,999, meaning the LON sign-in will
remain saved on the National Video Game Museum Joust
machine for all-time.
Patterson himself remains busy, recently signing on with
new gaming website Scholarly Gamers. This new project
aims to raise the bar on online video game coverage by
providing a more detailed and thought out look at import-
ant industry topics. Patterson will be providing a weekly
column for the website where he provides his opinions on
whatever is on his mind at the time.
Chris Tang’s cancelled Primal Rage II arcade game has
been released online for the first time. This cancelled mid-
1990s sequel has previously only been playable at the
Chicago-area arcade Galloping Ghost and during the Cali-
fornia Extreme convention, which has often had one of the
surviving prototypes on hand for patrons to play.
