LETTERS send the message that "sex sells, " they do not breach the level of disrespect taken by the ad on page 49. Valerie also stated in her editorial, "It's taken dedicated people to resuscitate the industry." I think we should be wary of those who can and will "pull the plug" just when the patient appears to be fully recovering. Sharon Ash Champions Amusement Centers Bala Cynwyd, PA Disappointed in ad I am writing to express my disappointment and surprise in the Play Meter staff's decision to publish the advertisement on page 49 of the October issue. This ad can best be described in one worddisgusting. The promotion and acceptance of this type of sleazy advertisement is exactly what the video and entertainment industry do not need. Believe me, it is hard enough to try to maintain a level of respectability in this business without having to contend with this type of "anything for a buck" advertisement. Perhaps this was just an experiment on the part of Play Meter and the advertiser to see how far you could go. If it was, I can assure you that at least as far as I'm concerned, I would not consider dealing with a manufacturer that displays this level of mentality. Hopefully, should this manufacturer decide to continue with this type of cheesecake promotion, they will choose a more appropriate forum, such as Playboy or Hustler. As for Play Meter, that's strike one. Richard Braun Dixieland Arcade Fayetteville, GA Pulaski l11dv1trlal Park 1071 E. Gl•nbrook Dr."' Pulallld, 111114161 U.S.A. Seriously, I'd like to thank our readers for the time they spent putting their thoughts down on paper for us. These echo sentiments expressed by several readers who called to protest the ad. We 've never had to make a decision about whether to run an ad for such a reason. Yes, we're all used to seeing the booth with the most scantily clad ladies being the most popular at trade shows, so little did we realize how the ad would be taken. Based on the objections from our loyal readers and their valid reasons for not wanting to cheapen an already fragile image, we can promise you that we will no longer accept any ads that depict a sleazy image. I'd like to mention that we have refused the same company's ad even with a girl in a bikini. Thanks for letting us know how you feel. We definitely listen!
