f ROM THE EDITOR We really need your help on this E ach year we embark on two major projects that are headaches for us, but very useful to the industry. Of course, I'm referring to the Directory and State of the Industry Report, which we have combined into a special issue for handy reference all year long. The Directory is a comprehensive listing of all game manufacturers, game distributors, support/supply companies, associations , and foreign manufacturers and distributors. We try our damdest to make sure we do not overlook anyone, but nevertheless there's bound to be someone overlooked. Most of the time it turns out that those left out did not return their information confirmation sent out to everyone listed the previous year. These computergenerated sheets give everyone who appeared last year a chance to review their listing and make sure everything is current. All we ask is that you look it over and drop it back to us with additions and changes. If no changes are necessary, check that box and send it back so we'll know you saw it. If you were not listed last year and want to be listed this year, please give us a call right away. We need to hear from you because, although we add new companies and try to make changes all year, we can only go by the information we have. We are all working on this project, so just call 504 / 488-7003 and give us the information. PLAY METER 10 NOVEMBER 1991 Our other massive undertaking is the State of the Industry Report. We have been doing this report for 10 years and have been able to track trends in the industry. But it could never be done without cooperation from our operator readers, whose experiences this report is based on. You probably have our survey sitting on your desk right now. Lift up that stack of papers you swore to "get to later" and fill it out. If you really don't have the time to fill the whole thing out, would you do me a big favor and at least fill out the back where we ask you to give us your opinion on the industry and to vote for the Play Meter Awards. As you know, we ask operators to vote for their favorite games over the past year. Based solely on those votes, we present awards at the ACME show, which is sponsored by Play Meter and AAMA. If you've ever said to yourself, "I just can 't believe they got an award," then make a difference with your vote. And please don't look at the Directory listings when it comes out and say, "I can't believe they got my address wrong." Now's the time to make sure we have it right. And last but not least, I'm also asking you to tell us what you want to see in the magazine . We've left enough space for a few suggestions on the back of the form. Many of our stories are in response to a suggestion by a reader. Remember that we are not operators, distributors, or manufacturers so we need their input to understand what is going on in the industry. I'm going to thank you all in advance for taking some of your valuable time to help us let you know what's going on across the country in our favorite industry! While I'm at it, let m e mention something else you could be thinking about-ACME, to be held in San Antonio March 15-17, 1992. Weare a co-sponsor of this event and feel that it is going to be one of the best shows ever. We hear many suggestions about where a show should be held and San Antonio was one place we heard often. We are working on the seminar program and would welcome any suggestions for timely topics you'd like to see covered. We want everyone who comes to San Antonio to find what they are looking for . If you'd like more information, please give us a call at (504) 488-7003 or call the show managers at (708) 333-9292. I'm thanking you all in advance for all your support and help. We could not put out a magazine or organize a trade show without the input from those we do it for! D Valerie Cognevich Editor
