Scott Studebaker
AAMA names
legal director
Scott Studebaker is the American
Amusement Machine Association's
new director of legal affairs. He
replaces Peter Kopke, who left early
this year to take a job in Michigan.
Studebaker relocated to Washing-
ton, D.C .. from Denver. where he spe-
cialized in commercial litigation. He
has provided insurance defense and
has also done his own investigation
work.
A cooperative venture of Premier
Techno logy and Bally's Aladdin's
Castles brought hundreds of specta-
tors to the Premier/ Aladdin's Castles
Pinball Playoff recently in suburban
Matheson. Ill .. at the Lincoln Mall Fun
Center.
Contestants ranging in age from
nine to 46 from metropolitan Chicago
competed for a chance to win a Rock
pinball and be on TV.
Hosted by ABC-TV's " Rock on Chi-
cago," a music-video program. the
tournament was seen by more than
300,000 teenagers and young adults.
In addition to tournament action. the
program included interviews by
"Rock on Chicago" host Brant Miller
with contestants . spectators. and
Premier Technology game designers.
Representing Premier were Gil
Poll ock. president: Jeff Walker .
national sales manager; and John
Trudeau and Adolf Seitz, Jr .. design
engineers. Also present were Barb
Seifert. Aladdin's Castles advertising
and sales promotion manager. and
Dave Grant. store manager.

Ed Liberman. 14, won the cham-
pionship and a Rock pinball game
with a score of 5,338.700 points. Each
finalist received an Aladdin's Castles
T-shirt. and all contestants received a
Rock poster and Aladdin's Castles
visor.

Smoking ban opposed
The president of the Central Ohio
Lung Association. Marie E. Collar!. has
said that a law banning smoking in
public places in Columbus would flop
because the public would resent and
ignore it.
Collar! said telephone calls to her
office indicate everyone from civic
leaders to the general public opposes
enacting the legislation because "citi-
zens are concerned about govern-
ment interfering in issues where
people feel government does not
belong." A similar law has been
adopted in Cincinnati.
