I'm confused by the guest editorial
by Louis Boasberg (See Play Meter,
August 15, p. 8.). He claims ware-
houses are "bursting at the seams"
with quantities of games, and "you can
practically name your price on some
real good games." And he mentions
"acute deflation" in the coin machine
business and predicts a "Crash of '82"
as big as the "Crash of '29."
What does he mean by "Crash?" Is
he talking about the coin machine
business or worldwide economies? Or
is he just ranting in general about the
new competition and hoping they'll
soon fall by the wayside?
And what about these so-called
warehouses bursting with games?
Seems to me that the advertised games
in Play Meter's classifieds are priced
pretty healthy-aren't they moving? If
not, why are the prices so high? I see
Frank advertising Asteroids for $1395,
and I see some other used games
advertised at close to new game prices.
This is the most primitive editorial I
have ever seen in Play Meter. The use
of the word deflation is most inappro-
priate. Obviously, what he's hot about
is depreciation. The word deflation
applies only to currency or hot-air
balloons.
I don't want to see dim-wit letters on
the editorial page. An editorial should
be reserved for professional treatment
of issues, and proper grammar and
terminology should be mandatory
requirements.
Play Meter is a fine publication and
has been a great help to me. As an
instrument of communication, it is
important for the magazine to insist on
proper use of language. How can ideas
be exchanged if they aren't properly
expressed?

What your editorial director, Mr.
Pierson. failed to mention in his article
(October l , 1982 Play Meter, p. 176)-
an article in which his lack of objec-
tivity clearly shows-is the reason
Bally-Midway felt compelled to pro-
hibit the Jews for Jesus from using an
obiect under its copyright.
