Operators
(A.M .O.A.) met with the newly-
constituted Copyright Royalty Tri-
bunal December 8 in Washington
D.C .
Three members of the A .M .O.A .
Government Relations Committee -
Don Van Brackel, president of the
association; Fred Granger, execu-
tive vice president; and Garland B.
Garrett, immediate past president -
appeared before the Tribunal to
explain the position of jukebox
operators.
Van Brackel showed the associa-
tion's new audio visual program,
after which A .M .O.A. representa-
tives answered questions about the
industry. The purpose of the
meeting was to give the Tribunal a
background of the industry.
Members of the Tribunal are
Clarence L. James, Jr., Douglas E.
Coulter, Thomas C. Brennan (chair-
man) , Mary Lou Berg , and Francis
Garcia .
The new copyright law, which
requires operators to pay a royalty
fee of eight dollars per jukebox per
year, went Into ettect January 1.
According to Granger, operators
will be able to make a single
application for multiple machines,
and there will be continuation
sheets for the larger operators to list
all their jukeboxes .

for operators
The following is a list of five
things which jukebox operators
should be aware of concerning the
new copyright law which went into
effect January 1.
1. Operators will have until Jan-
uary 31, 1978 to file requests for
applications for registration of juke-
boxes that are on location at the
start of the year.

2. For a jukebox that is placed on
location on any date after January
1, 1978, operators will have one
m onth from the placement date in
which to file an application for
registration.
3. With in twenty days after re-
ceipt of the application and royalty
fee, the Registel of Copyrights will
issue to the operators a certificate
for the j ukebox.
4. March " 1978 is the deadline
for affixing the registration certifi-
cates that are issued by the
Copyright Office on or before
February 19, 1978.
5. Certificates that the Copyright
Office issues anytime after February
19, 1978, must be affixed to
j ukeboxes within ten days of
issuance dates.
