COLLINS: Wh en I collected , I had meters and when
went to coli ct , I would show m y loca tion the reading of
th meter and I would give th m the extra change I had
left after bagging th c hange into proper amounts. At
th end of the week I would show them how much it
cost. Thi is another way yo u are ure your collectors
aren ' t giving money away . ometim s the location
owner can be pretty popular with the customer at th
own r's ex pens .

one we now have or something perhaps more
sophisticated than that would allow the operator to ju t
go in and remov the money and give th location
owner a reading and just write him out a ch ck rather
than sit and count all that money .
COLLINS: That i a good thought , but meters and
machine do m a lfun ction. I would like to see it get to
that point. I would certainly save a lot of time . In our
ase , how ver , w pretty mu h go into the location ,
co unt the money and give the loca tion owner a
collection s lip before h e pay u . I like that a lot better
because yo u eliminate pilf rages , break· in and that
sort of thing. Giving the k y to the cash box does cause
some minor problems , but it save money in running a
change service in mo t a es .
