founder oi the Sohmer Piano, proved scientifically and mathematically that the piano string
weight, its thickness, material and" other factors could compensate for lack of length.
Hugo Sohmer built the first 5-foot baby grand in the year 1884.
Later the laws governing full-tone production in small pianos were again applied and the
Sohmer Console-Vertical was created. This piano, famed for its compact, practical dimensions plus
its magnificent tonal quality and keyboard response, was called "The Musician's Console".
The latest Sohmer achievement is a beautiful French Provincial encasement for the Musician's
Console —in Fruitwood or Old World Mahogany —designed to complement the homes of today.
