He was 55 years of age and had been
with the Baldwin organization since
November, 1921.
When Mr. Ferrell started with the
Baldwin organization, his duties were
many and varied. Later when radio
and electronic organs became an im-
portant factor in the music business,
he concentrated in this field. l a 1946,
the Baldwin electronic organ, was in-
troduced, he was transferred from the
Cincinnati retail store to the factory
headquarters where he was in full charge
of the service and service instruction on
Baldwin electronic organs. Practically
every Baldwin organ service technician
in the field today was personally
trained and assisted by Mr. Ferrell.
Mr. Ferrell was very well-known and
very popular among dealers from coast
to coast. He is survived by his wife,
Janet.

Erecting New Dry Kilns
GRAND AVENUE
Pratt, Read & Co., Ivoryton, Conn.,
are building new dry kilns which should
be completed by September. Two will
be in operation by July 15. They will
have an almost 30% footage-wise ca-
pacity over the old kilns which were
removed for future building space.
A new feature is a green lumber
storage area adjoining the kilns which
will greatly expedite loading. A change
from cross-piled to end-piled loading
will also increase efficiency.

FRED
COLBER
E. Fred Colber, since 1931 retail
salesman at the New York piano salon
of the Baldwin Piano Co., passed away
suddenly on Sunday evening, May 31st,
at his home in New York. Mr. Colber,
who was 80 years of age at the time of
his death, had been in good health and
his passing was entirely unexpected,
having sat down after dinner to smoke
his pipe and fell asleep and could not
be aroused thereafter.
Mr. Colber had witnessed many
changes in the piano industry and in
the early days entered the employ of
William Knabe & Co. when the late
Dick Paynter was sales manager. He
traveled for many years during the time
that the Ampico was being exploited
by the American Piano Co. and he also
sold at retail for the Aeolian Co.
Mr. Colber, who was independent in
his own right, could have retired many
times but was not of the retiring temp-
erament and always said that he would
rather continue to sell pianos for the
rest of his natural life. He is survived
by his wife Lois.
