took place in Philadelphia the last week
Estey Organ Company Check
Wins Award for Eye-Appeal
The check used by the Estey Organ
Co.. Battleboro, Vt., has been chosen
as a winning example of beauty in
design, lithographic excellence, and
functional value.
The Estey Organ Co. check was one
of six which won first prize in the
bank stationery classification of the
Second National Offset Lithography
competition. The entry was submitted
by the manufacturer of the checks.
The Todd Company, of Rochester,
IV Y.. as an outstanding example of
check beauty and design. The com-
petition was sponsored by the Lithog-
raphers National association and the
winning checks have been on display
in Marshall Field's, Chicago.
In its various classifications of
lothography. the competition drew
more than 2,200 entries from leading
lithographers in all parts of the coun-
try. The five other winning checks
were those of The New Yorker maga-
zine; Pollock's Inc., Atlanta. Ga.,
Colonial Stores. Inc., Norfolk. Va.,
Frolic Footwear. Inc., Jonesboro, Ark.;
and Grace Brothers Brewing Co.,
Santa Rosa, Cal.

in March, the Jacobs Bros. Music Co..
Chestnut St.. Philadelphia, had a win-
dow display exploiting the Culbransen
Minuet studio upright.
In back of the piano which was dis-
played, there was a sign pointing out
that over 2.000 schools and education-
al institutions use Gulbransen pianos.
CHARLES M. BENT
Charles Matcett Bent, son of the late
George T. Bent, former head of the
George T. Bent Company, piano manu-
facturers of many years ago, passed
away suddenly on Tuesday, April 15th,
at his home in Honolulu.
Mr. Bent was born in Chicago on
August 25th, 1895. He graduated from
the University of Chicago, being a
member of the Psi Epsilon Fraternity.
At one time he managed a retail store
for the George P. Bent Piano Co. in
Chicago. He was a veteran of World
War I. and served overseas in Europe
in 1917. He first went to Hawaii in
1937 to assume the management of the
piano department of the Bergstrom Mu-
sic Co. In 1950, he left to become
Manager of the piano department of the
Easy Appliance Co. of Honolulu.
Mr. Bent was buried Thursday, April
17, at the Diamond Head Memorial
Cemetery with his son, Charles M. Bent,
Jr., bomber pilot and veteran of World
War II who died here in Honolulu in
January 1949.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs.
Ida May Burke Bent, a daughter, Miss
Mary Wingate Bent, a brother, George
Harry Bent of Pasadena, Cal., and
three sisters, Mrs. Muriel Bent Harris
of Winnetka, 111., Mrs. Barbara Bent
Bannister of San Francisco, Cal., and
Mrs. Dorothy Bent Lane of Washington,
D. C. and two grandchildren, Margaret
Willsie Bent and Mary Louise Bent,
daughters of Mrs. Charles M. Bent, Jr.
