Army Shelters to be Made
In Jesse French & Son Plant
1897-1951

A government contract for the manu-
facture of army shelters has been award-
ed to the Jesse French division of H. &
A. Selmer, Inc. at New Castle, Ind..
according to a recent announcement by
J. M. Grolimund, Selmer president.
The contract was awarded by the
New York Quartermaster Procurement
Agency. Work will start on the shelters
soon. The quartermaster contract is in
addition to government work currently
being handled at the Jesse French plant
for other prime contractors, Grolimund
said.
Production of Jesse French pianos
will continue to the full extent per-
mitted under material limitations now in
effect. Additional employees, both men
and women, will be added to take care
of the military production.
The shelter, which will be used for
military personnel, administration, stor-
age, and first aid, is a descendent of the
World War II Quonset hut. It can be
erected in 142 minutes, complete with
furnishings and insulation. The covering
is duck, coated with Vernal—a water-
resistant chemical. Fiberglas coated with
asbestos provides the insulation. The
shelter is 16 ft. square—accommodates
si» persons—and is supported by a
plywood frame.
The shelter has been tested in tem-
peratures as low as 72 degrees below
zero and is designed for use in all cli-
mates. The windows have plastic cover-
ings on the Thermopane principle.

Special Bulletin on Organs
Issued by Dampp-Chaser r Inc.
Dampp-Chaser. Inc., Hendersonville,
N. C, has issued a special organ service
bulletin, which shows that one Dampp-
Chaser for the purpose of eliminating
dampness should be used in the key
action, reed organ console, electronic
console, pipe organ console, speaker and
amp-cabinet of both the reed organ
console and the electric console, and the
tone unit cabinet of the electronic con-
sole. It is suggested that two, or as many
as may be needed, be used in the chest
and pipes of a pipe organ.
The bulletin then goes on to tell that
the Dampp-Chaser protects reeds, electro
magnets, transformers, switches, coils,
condensers, resistors, speakers, bellows,
valves, metal parts and leather parts.
It also draws attention to the fact that
service men can do quicker and better
work because the ravages of dampness
are permanently stopped, and manufac-
turers and rebuilders can protect their
guarantee.
"No attention is ever required—sim-
ply plug in and forget" is one of the
lines in this bulletin. It also says that
Dampp-Chasers carry the Fire Under-
writers U. L. label and can be safely
installed anywhere. It is also pointed
out that there is a five-year guarantee
which goes with the Dampp-Chasers
which have proven their effectiveness in
thousands of pianos and organs during
the past four years.
