This is the first five foot
grand ever built in all the world. Con-
ceived, made and patented by Hugo
Sohmer in 1884 — this piano, now 66
years old — stands proudly in our sec-
ond floor galleries. Here, visitors play
on it daily and marvel at its tone. The
original Sohmer-made action, ham-
mers, keys and soundboard are still in-
tact in the original rosewood case. No
repairs have ever been made because
none have been necessary.
