MnsicTrade Review
Vol. 91
D E F F E R , of Stockton, Cal., is not
only a good piano m a n but a
clever stock trader, proven by the fact
that he took bank stock selling a t $3.75
on a basis of $5.00 per share in ex-
change for pianos and other musical
instruments.
It is pleasant to relate
[hat this gambler not only got his full
$5.00 worth, but made an additional
profit of 75 cents p e r share when the
stock went up some time later. T h e
question is whether he w a s t a k i n g any
more chance with the bank stock than
he is with his installment paper. It
certainly would not be a good policy
to follow generally as, for instance,
t a k i n g United States Steel a t $100.00
per share a year ago.

C H O W M E N are always optimists.
T h e i r slogan is ''Rain or shine the
show goes on." A n d those w h o a r e
sponsoring the Century of Progress
Exposition in Chicago next year a r e
r u n n i n g true to form. T h e y h a v e sug-
gested that the piano t r a d e raise a
m i n i m u m of $100,000.00 to sponsor a n
exhibit that will do credit to the in-
dustry.
U p to the time of writing,
this $100,000.00 is so f a r in the future
as to be invisible, a n d the probabili-
ties a r e that the t r a d e will not dazzle
any of the exhibition visitors with its
display. W h a t the industry itself could
do with $100,000.00 cash just n o w is
nobody's business.
