Week in April
Ambitious Exploitational Program Is to Be Undertaken by Trade
in That City and Concentrated Drive Featuring

ETROIT, MICH., February 23.—The piano merchants of Detroit have come to the con-
clusion that the player-piano is worthy of some extra strong exploitation to determine
whether or not that instrument still has an appeal to the public when properly presented.
Many members of the trade have been firm in their conviction that the player-piano has a place
in the field of things musical, but that it is seldom presented to the prospect in a manner to
enthuse him regarding its musical possibilities.

will feature nothing but player-pianos in its
advertising during the week and each house
will carry on a series of window demonstra-
tions more or less standard in character and
using attractive young ladies to point out to
passersby the outstanding virtues of the player-
piano. Prices will not be featured, the cam-
paign being devoted entirely to selling the idea
of the player-piano, and no comparison between
products of competing houses will be made.
The companies which have agreed to take
part in the observance of Player-Piano Week
include Grinnell Bros., who will devote their
efforts to that end in all their stores; J. L. Hud-
son Music Store; Cable Piano Co.; W. W. Kim-
ball Co.; People's Outfitting Co.; Levine &
Black; Geo. Johnson Music House; Starr Piano
Frank J. Bayley, Detroit's Pianoforte
Co., and the Rudolph Wurlitzer Co.

L. R. Hilgeford in Charge
L. B. Hilgeford, who is widely known
throughout southwestern Ohio from his for-
mer business connections, is now head of the
Arcade Music Store radio department in Day-
ton, O. Mr. Hilgeford has had wide experience
in the radio field. The Arcade Music Store
features a complete line of Sparton and Cros-
ley radio sets.
Denver's Music Week
DENVER, COL., February 23. —• Denver's annual
Music Week will be held this year the week
of May 6. A very worth-while program is being
prepared and musical instrument dealers of the
city are also planning to do their part in mak-
ing the event a big success, as they have in
past years.
Both Fuse and Cash Blow
A fuse blew out in the store of the G. A.
Hausner Co., Minneapolis, while a man and
a woman were looking over the company's
stock. When a new fuse was installed and the
lights turned on, the cash register was found
to be empty.
Join Foster & Waldo Staff
Al Watson, formerly connected with The
Cable Piano Co. and the Brooks-Evans Piano
Co., and Harvey Hassel, formerly with the tun-
ing department of The Cable Co., have joined
the staff of Foster & Waldo, Minneapolis.
Death of Ulric L. Means
KANSAS
CITY,
MO., February 25.—Ulric L.
Means, president of the Means Music Co., 305
East Tenth street, passed away recently at his
home. Mir. Means was 75 years old and was ill
a few days. He was a native of Illinois.
